Independent Living Officer
We’re looking for a temporary Independent Living Officer to join our amazing Help at Hand team based in York. This a six-month contract (when it comes to working hours per week, we can be flexible around you and will discuss this at interview). Our ILO's provide high-quality person-centred support service, promoting independence and choice for our customers.
You might think of Yorkshire Housing as ‘just’ a housing provider. We own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and our mission is to make it possible for current and future tenants to have a place they’re proud to call home. We’re all about the customer, and our service doesn’t stop once the keys are in the door. We’re passionate about making a real difference in our tenants’ lives, and to us, that involves more than putting a roof over their heads.
As an Independent Living Officer, you’ll play a huge part in this mission. Are you interested yet?
What you’ll be doing
You’ll carry out support visits to Help at Hand customers, supporting them to live independently in their own homes. You’ll gain critical knowledge and understanding of the customers’ needs and choices whilst also providing caring and sympathetic support that promotes their independence.
You’ll regularly review needs and risk assessments, ensuring agreed outcomes are documented and actioned along with signposting or referring to external services as required. This could include liaising with healthcare and other professionals to facilitate their support.
You’ll install and test emergency alarms and telecare equipment as required along with ensuring customers understand how to use this technology.
Finally, an important aspect of the role is being able to respond to emergency calls for assistance, including out-of-hours standby service as per rota, taking action as appropriate. The ability to undertake evenings and weekend work as required in order to meet the needs of the customers is crucial.
Sounds good? Here’s what we need from you
What matters most to us is that you own the work you do to achieve impact by delivering results and creating trust with our customers. We want you to be able to do this with pride and passion for Yorkshire Housing. We also want you to have fun along the way
**Key requirements include**:
**Essential**:
Ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service that promotes customer independence.
Ability to use your initiative, work under pressure and without direct supervision.
Excellent organisation and time management skills.
Understanding of safeguarding.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
IT competent and have experience in using Microsoft packages.
Knowledge of services and opportunities available for older people.
Full driving license and access to a car for business purposes.
**Desirable**:
Previous experience of working with older people or adults requiring support.
What’s in it for you
In return, we offer £21,221.43 plus £2,000 car allowance per annum for a 35-hour week, 25 days annual leave (rising annually to 30 days) plus Bank Holidays. This will be pro-rated based on the working pattern of this role.
But that’s not all. We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At YH, you can claim for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we’ll match your contributions up to 9%, to name a few.
Our people’s health and well-being is our top priority, and at YH, you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to Perkbox’s Wellness Hub as well as a My GP service and free counselling with Health Assured.
The important bit
Please note - this is a 6-month fixed-term contract. This role is primarily based around York but may need to operate across the entire Yorkshire region. You will need access to a car for business purposes.
