The Lotus Service (Maternal Mental Health Service) is looking for individuals with lived experience of maternity services, that can offer insight and inspire and give hope to aid recovery. The Peer support worker will provide peer support and practical assistance to enable a more positive engagement with services and experience with maternity services and opportunity to address issues through accessing the appropriate interventions.
The ‘Maternal Mental Health Service’ (MMHS) which will offer NICE recommended therapy to women with moderate-severe or complex mental health difficulties resulting from the maternity experience, including birth loss and birth trauma. The service will provide consultation, advice, signposting and/or targeted interventions. Presentations related to the above-mentioned mental health difficulties may include (but not limited to) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following birth trauma, repeated IVF, PTSD following perinatal loss (including recurrent miscarriage, stillbirth, termination of pregnancy for any reason, and severe fear of childbirth (tokophobia).
Peer support is recognised as a key component of modern mental health and wellbeing provision
A key feature of this post is to promote individual person-centred recovery by drawing on the peer support workers own personal lived experience of mental health challenges and of accessing mental health services, particularly within the perinatal period

As a pivotal and highly valued member of the team, peer support workers will have a case load of identified patients and their families who they will work with on both an individual basis and by delivering group interventions, working in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team.
