**JOB TITLE Youth worker for the Farm Futures Project**
**REPORT TO Programme Manager Cowran Care**
**Contract Part-time 30 hours per week**
**Six month probation.**
**Fixed term, three year contract**
**Salary Salary will be set between £21K and £23K for 30 hours per week,**
**depending on the degree of match with the required Person Specification.**
**Annual Leave Paid leave will be 192 hours per year**
**BACKGROUND**
**Cowran Care is a Rural Skills Centre and Care Farm, which works with young people aged 8 to 24.**
**We have an education program which engages young people who are challenged within**
**mainstream education, and are enabled to learn land-based vocational skills, gaining qualifications**
**to move into employment, Further Education or volunteering.**
**We are now able to offer a new post to develop quality youth work provision for young people**
**based on the farm. This will give us the opportunity to engage the young people of South**
**Cumbria In a range of activities delivering social, environmental, animal care, and outdoor**
**activities, developing their knowledge and experiences, involving them in the local community.**
**This will enrich their lives and challenge them in constructive and meaningful ways, impacting on**
**their whole quality of life and that of their families.**
**The youth worker and their developing team, will support and champion young people across**
**South Cumbria, creating ongoing opportunities to develop new skills, realise their potential,**
**working effectively in a team.**

**The youth worker will have a well developed understanding of how effective youth work improves**
**the lives of young people, supports resilient communities and fosters important relationships in**
**the local area**
**They will ensure that young people are at the heart of this new youth work provision, with young**
**people helping steer the decision making process at every level. A focus of the role is to**
**implement the feedback of the young people, listening to their ideas and opinions.**
**The team will offer bespoke support to young people with additional needs and enable them to**
**build their resilience and thrive.**
**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Key Responsibilities**
**The Youth worker will be responsible for**
1. Developing a new youth work provision, engaging the involvement of young people across the
Furness Peninsula, with a particular focus on Barrow-in
- Furness
2. Achieving this, by growing a team of youth support workers, and training them to support this work.
3. Involving young people in activities like: food growing; animal care; environmental conservation, cooking, craft activities and a wide range of practical outdoor tasks and team building activities, including Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
4. Developing monitoring processes to make continual appraisal of the success of the program, and adjusting to improve the youth work provision, as it develops
5. Fostering positive relationships with other organisations, schools, charities, farms and businesses from across South Cumbria
6. Implementing safeguarding, with a good understanding of the policies and procedures of
Cowran Care and Training regarding e-safety, behavioral code of conduct, health and safety.
**7. **Secure and build positive relationships with parents, carers or guardians, maintaining contact and support with any other agencies involved in the care and support of the young people involved.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**
**ESSENTIAL**
**1. Experience of youth work or informal education with 8 to 24 year olds**
**2. Experience of developing and managing a team of workers / volunteers / support worker**
**or similar**
**3. Experience in the confident management of groups of young people, including setting and**
**upholding appropriate boundaries and discipline, as required.**
**4. Sound understanding of child/ adult safeguarding policies and procedures**
**5. Required to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions**
**6. Flexibility - willing to work evenings / weekends / school holidays as suits the young**
**people and the required projects**
**7. Practical awareness of health and safety in the workplace, especially on a farm**
**8. Willingness to undergo further or refresher training as identified.**
**9. Punctual, reliable, and able to work to deadlines**
**10. Ability to drive and with a clean driving licence**
**11. A recognized qualification to work with young people.. or equivalent**
**DESIRABLE**
