The Section of Nutrition is a laboratory at the forefront of nutritional research in particular the study of the impact of food on metabolism and the relationship with health and disease. The lab is currently involved in research into obesity and appetite circuits and in developing a new understanding between diet, gastrointestinal metabolism, whole body metabolism and ageing. We are now looking for a Research Associate to join our team to explore how food interacts with the microbiota in luminal environment to generate signals the effect physiology and health.
**Duties and responsibilities**:
You will develop and execute a number of in-vivo human digestion studies to enhance the understanding between diet, microbiota, intestinal environment and whole-body metabolism with an aim to understanding the food structure and dietary profile on metabolism. These will be complemented by invitro model of human digestion using organoid technology. You will work alongside colleagues at the Quadram Research Institute.
**Essential requirements**:
- Hold, or be near completion of, a PhD in Nutrition or a closely related discipline***:
- A good understanding of good clinical practice.
- Experience in interventional human studies.
- Experience in the collection, handling and analysis of metabolomic and physiological data.
- Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team.
- To take initiatives on dietary interventions and planning these.
- To identify and develop suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of digestive samples to give deep insight into the release on macronutrients food structure.
**Further information**:
This is a full time and fixed term post for 1 year. You will be based at the Hammersmith Campus, East Acton.
