Passenger Assistant

**We are currently looking for passenger assistants in the Lewisham or Greenwich area to work Monday to Friday, mornings, and afternoons in conjunction with school start and finish times. This rewarding role is accompanying children and young adults with a range of Special Educational Needs to and from school.**

Working closely with your driver, you will be liaising between parents and schools to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children in your care whilst on route, to and from school. Many passengers will have special educational, complex health needs or mobility problems and may be transported in wheelchairs.

The driver will pick you up and drop you off during shifts, so no travel is required. Punctuality is essential. Any previous experience is advantageous, but not necessary.

Enhanced CRB/DBS checks are mandatory and essential. PATS training and First aid would be a bonus but as this is a safeguarding role, training will be given.

**Duties include**:

- Assisting passengers with learning difficulties or special needs on and off the bus/car
- Helping the driver to get passengers to their destination safely.
- Ensure that the vehicle is parked in a place which allows reasonable access and allows passengers to board in safety. Special attention should be paid where a pickup point is on a busy road or involves the passenger having to cross the road.
- To ensure that all passengers are boarded onto the vehicle safely by giving whatever assistance is necessary to both the escort and passenger, according to the needs of the individual. Where this assistance involves passengers in wheelchairs and/or the use of a tail lift the acceptable safety practises will be followed. Operation of tail lift equipment while loading passengers is the responsibility of the driver. Under NO circumstances will escorts or any other unauthorized person be permitted to operate tail lift equipment.
- Report any accident resulting in damage to vehicles at the earliest opportunity. Where any other vehicle or property is involved drivers must comply with the relevant sections of the road traffic act. (accident forms must be submitted within 24 hours of accidental damage occurring).

Part-time hours: 15- 20 per week
