PBIC is a vibrant Bedford based charity that sets out to help migrants settle, achieve and contribute within the local community. We are currently looking for an experienced ESOL Tutor to join our team.

**Hours per week**: 24-30

**Reporting to**: Project Manager

Initial contract for 2 years with possibility to become permanent

**Aims**:
To plan, prepare and teach courses for adults to develop new skills with specific focus on teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages.

To provide appropriate learner feedback and support and educational advice and information where necessary, and to create an appropriate and welcoming atmosphere for learners.

To co-ordinate learning ensuring all aspects of learning including monitoring and reporting for PBIC and funders is completed

**Duties**:

- Plan, deliver and report on your courses, using methods and materials appropriate to each learner group and course content. A scheme of work mapped to ESOL Core Curriculum should be prepared in advance of the programme starting and lesson plans should be used for this and made available to the Project Manager, class visitor or inspector when required.
- Prepare/adapt and review appropriate teaching materials
- Identify/assess the needs of learners and if necessary adapt course content and delivery style to meet these needs. Where a course is inappropriate for a learner direct them to another course or provider. Deal appropriately with individual learner support needs and refer them accordingly.
- Ensure that all required documentation is completed including:

- Enrollment and registration forms
- Assessments
- Class registers
- Scheme of work and lesson plans
- Class profile (containing class overview, progression scale, identified special needs and ways of supporting those learners with SEND, information on differentiation, planned outcomes and progression, group characteristics, challenges and strategies to overcome challenges regularly updated.
- Achievement records evidencing qualifications and other outcomes
- Certificates
- Feedback forms
- Satisfaction questionnaires
- End of course evaluation
- Ensure the above documents are completed within the timescales set out below and stored in line with GDPR.
- Enrollment and registration forms (prior to the course starting)
- Scheme of work and lesson plans (prior to course starting)
- Class profile containing class overview, progression scale, identified special needs and ways of supporting those learners with SEND, information on differentiation, planned outcomes, group characteristics, challenges and strategies to overcome challenges regularly updated. (prior to course starting and then updated on a regular basis)
- Class registers (at every session)
- Feedback forms (at the last session)
- Satisfaction questionnaires (at the last session)
- End of course evaluation (within two weeks after the course end)
- Comply with the PBIC’s policy on Equality and Diversity so that all learners have fair access to services and are treated with respect and dignity in an environment in which a diversity of backgrounds and experience is valued.
- Challenge and deal with any harassment or discrimination issues that arise in classrooms.
- At the beginning of each course provide learners with an induction which includes H&S, Safeguarding, E&D, Prevent, PBIC communication tools and a Learning Contract to which every learner must sign up. Ensure this is communicated to learners effectively, using an interpreter where appropriate. Ensure a hard copy of the induction is available in relevant languages where appropriate.
- Explain and enable learners to use PBIC’s free services by disseminating relevant information ensuring they understand what the organisation can offer.
- Explain the importance of volunteering and encourage learners’ interest and explain the route into volunteering for PBIC.
- Liaise with PBIC’s Health and Safety officer to be aware of the venue, resources and administration, including procedures in case of fire and other health and safety issues.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of learning; Assess learners’ work where appropriate; Keep records of learners’ progress and ensure learners are given feedback on their progress.
- Offer advice on further learning and progression opportunities to learners as required.
- Attend relevant induction and training meetings as required.
- Mentoring of learning volunteers
- Any other duty which, from time to time, may reasonably be required to meet the needs of learners, funders and PBIC.

**Tutor Qualifications**
- Relevant qualification preferred, e.g. City and Guilds 9281 series qualification, 9285 Certificate in Teaching Adults Basic Skills, TEFL, CELTA or DELTA qualifications for ESOL or willing to work towards specialist qualification as soon as possible
- PTTLS, Cert. Ed. or relevant PGCE or willingness to acquire appropriate adult teaching qualification.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
