**Role Purpose**

The role of Recoveries Handler is pivotal to the success of the company; settling outstanding debt resulting from credit hire claims presented to third party insurers. Handlers will be expected to make decisions effectively to progress the claims towards settlement or litigation. Excellent customer service skills are imperative, as well as relationship building and negotiation.

**Main Responsibilities**
- To accurately assess newly invoiced credit hire claims in order to predict the expected value of recovery
- To liaise with third party insurers in order to settle these claims, by using confident negotiation skills, a good phone and written manner, and understanding of the risks to each claim’s recoverability.
- To assess the file for liability prospects where a dispute exists
- To assess the prospects of litigation if the file cannot be settled, including the inherent risks of any offers, and an understanding of what the litigation process will entail
- To ensure that clients are updated regularly, their expectations well-managed, and our requirements of them are made clear. This includes assisting in the recovery of uninsured losses, and the possibility of litigation.
- To build rapport with clients, insurers, solicitors and sources to improve working relationships
- To evidence ‘out of the box’ thinking when traditional methods are unsuccessful
- To utilise a strong knowledge of case law to support our position, be that in terms of liability or quantum.
- To maximise recovery of a file by any possible means, and to avoid reductions from invoice wherever possible
- To avoid aged debt by ensuring that decisions are made promptly and effectively, and that claims are not allowed to stagnate or be neglected. This will include commercial awareness and consideration of litigation prospects
- To work closely alongside a team of colleagues to ensure that all targets are met and the department overall is performing as expected

**Training**

You will be provided training and continuous support from your team leader.

**What we ask of you?**
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be customer focused, natural ability to build relationships
- Must be enthusiastic, self motivated and hard working
- Must have excellent time keeping and time management skills to be able to manage your file load
- Must be capable of working in a fast paced environment and multi-tasking

**Desirable Qualities**
- Understanding of the motor sector and inherent issues, including credit hire
- Knowledge of the ABI GTA, including timescales and rates/vehicle groups
- Knowledge of relevant Credit Hire Case Law
- Knowledge of taxi claims beneficial
- Dealings with credit hire are preferable, whether from CHO, defendant or solicitor perspective
- Experience of liability, fraud, debt recovery
