Arup has committed to undertake whole lifecycle carbon assessments of all of our buildings projects (new and retrofit) and will not be taking on any new energy commissions involving the extraction, refinement or transportation of hydrocarbon-based fuels.
We are looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm and passion for shaping a better world and to play an integral role in helping our clients understand the impact of their operations, projects and assets and help them transition to net zero carbon and improved sustainability outcomes.
**Role**
We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Sustainability Consultant to join our Scotland team to help our clients respond to the Climate Emergency and embed the Sustainable Development Goals. We are seeking a consultant with developed skills in sustainability, climate change and carbon who is experienced working across a range of industries, organisations and projects.
As a Senior Consultant you will work as part of a peer group of specialists and project managers, supported by a strong and diverse team of consultants and senior leaders. The role requires strong content knowledge in the field of sustainability together with a sound understanding of qualitative/quantitative analysis and excellent report writing and communication skills. The role requires strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships with others and work in teams.
**Your role will include**:
- Managing a range of sustainability projects, either as a technical specialist in support of a wider team or as the Project Manager
- Providing sustainability expertise to wider multi-disciplinary teams to drive and embed sustainability and net zero
- Working with clients to help them understand how to improve and report on their sustainability performance
- Developing comprehensive strategies and recommendations
- Preparing and delivering compelling client
- and public-facing reports
- Preparing and delivering presentations, workshops and/or training to teams and clients
- Managing projects including budgets and programmes.
**Skills & Qualifications**:

**Essential Skills and Knowledge**:
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree in a relevant field. We would prefer qualifications which demonstrate multi-disciplinary and strategic problem solving. Other relevant qualifications will be considered.
- 6 or more years experience and track record in sustainability. We recognise that sustainability is a broad field so your experience may cover one or many of the following: ESG / Corporate Sustainability Strategy and Reporting (GRI, TCFD), sustainability assessments and ratings, sustainable design, Net Zero carbon/GHG strategy and action plans (SBTs), Management Systems/Standards (ISO14001, ISO20121, PAS2060, PAS2080) and/or sustainable finance.
- Understanding of the principles of sustainability and climate change and its relationship to the planning, design and operation of the built environment.
- Experience of working in and/or managing a team
- Experience writing, editing and reviewing technical and non-technical reports including producing compelling insights and findings from analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including strong experience in workshops, presenting and stakeholder engagement.
**Preferred Skills and Knowledge**:
- Be chartered or working towards chartership in a relevant professional institution
- Project and commercial management experience, including project planning and budgeting.
- Experience in business development including bids and proposals
- Experience in a client-facing role
