**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST**

**Main Purpose of the Job**

The Digital Spine Assistant (DSA) carries out an active role within our brand new “Digital
Spine” learning spaces - ensuring the spaces are kept in order, technology is regularly checked, student behaviour is supervised, and any health and safety or behaviour issues are addressed as needed.

The DSA supports learners in the space with their IT issues and digital skills questions on a one-to-one or small group basis. The assistant also creates and delivers digital skills, literacy and numeracy workshops to aid learners in progressing and developing their skills.
- To act as an ambassador for the Digital Spines, welcoming learners to the spaces, and advocating for the training and learning opportunities available to students.

Taking responsibility for supervising activities which take place in the Spines
- Under the direction of the Customer Services Coordinator Work with line management and academic liaison colleagues to assist in creating create online and paper-based learning and training materials on IT, digital skills and literacy/numeracy topics.
- To deliver basic training presentations and workshops on MS Office, other IT, digital skills, and literacy/numeracy topics.
- To assist students with their digital skills and literacy/numeracy queries one-to-one and in small groups within the Digital Spine learning spaces. To use problem solving skills to solve students IT support issues
- To be aware of and stay up to date with current developments of the core Microsoft
- To arrive in time to prepare for the commencement of activities and sessions in the

Digital Spines and remain present and engaged throughout these sessions.
- To communicate information about Digital Spine activities and equipment in an engaging, positive, and professional way.
- To carry out administrative duties take responsibility for the daily running and administration of to support Digital Spine activities as required, using your initiative to take decisions on organisation of tasks and dealing with incidents in the Centre as required.
- To develop a high level of knowledge of Library support at the College, signposting students to the Learning Resources Centre team and Collection as appropriate. Work with the LRC team to ensure a full library service is also available at the Digital Spine carrying out library tasks as needed

**General Duties**:

- To comply with the requirements of College Policies and Procedures.
- To be responsible for the implementation of and compliance with the College’s Health and Safety policy.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required.

**Qualifications: Essential Desirable**

GCSEs (or Level 2 equivalent) in English, Mathematics and ICT (or a commitment to undertake a skill assessment
- at interview stage and achieve the required qualification level within one year of appointment date)

L3 award in education and training (or willingness to work
- towards one).

A-levels (or Level 3 equivalent qualifications)
- **Knowledge, skills and experience: Essential Desirable**

Excellent IT skills and excellent knowledge of, MS Office,

Ability (using guidance provided) to carry out training on
- learning skills (digital, information, study, research, literacy)

Ability to use educational technology to deliver sessions to
- students and staff, either on a one-to

- training materials to a high standard

Ability to provide excellent customer service in a
- welcoming manner.

Excellent communication skills including ability to use tact
- and sensitivity when dealing with difficult situations and to communicate with challenging and/or vulnerable learners

The ability to troubleshoot issues, find solutions and take a
