- Job description- In this role you will work with the existing hydrologists in the team, utilising your hydrological skills and experience to support the operation of Severn regulation. Focusing on improving the tools that we use to manage the River Severn and our understanding of the system.
You will also provide hydrological input to the forthcoming reviews of the River Severn Drought Order and the wider review of Severn regulation, as well as working on the Strategic Resource Options affecting the West Midlands including the Severn-Thames transfer.
As a Hydrologist you will:
- Analyse, interpret, report and review hydrology data for water resources activities
- Carry out quality assurance of river flow data and technical assessments into the impact of water abstractions on river flows
- Work closely with our Hydrology team members, internal and external customers, and partners
- Use hydrological and water resource planning models, such as Aquator and complete technical reviews of model outputs
As well as having substantial technical knowledge you will be required to work with internal teams, water companies and other external stakeholders to collate, analyse and agree datasets and models to support delivery of our area’s priorities.
- The team- The West Midlands Water Transfer team was formed to coordinate and assess the feasibility of water transfers (known as Strategic Resource Options) across the region. The remit of the team has grown and now includes specialists in water resources, hydrology and drought planning. The team coordinates regulation of the River Severn, balancing the needs of water users and the environment.
- Experience/skills required- You should be qualified to degree level in a relevant environmental discipline and be a member or working towards a membership of a relevant professional institute.
You’ll have extensive hydrological experience with an in depth understanding of water resources. Experience of utilising and reviewing hydrological and water resources models (e.g. Aquator) and their outputs is also required.
Alongside this you’ll have experience of the analysis and interpretation of data and information to inform decision making and problem solving. You’ll also be a confident communicator and be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
Experience of working collaboratively with water companies and of managing and delivering projects would be advantageous.
