Cleaner - Darwen (Part-time)

**Role Profile** **Job Role: Cleaner** **Accountable to: Facilities Manager** **About Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone**: Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone is a 21st century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn and a dedicated site in Darwen, open to young people aged 5 to 25 years old, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area. Our vision is to be at the heart of the community, collaborating to create a more cohesive and prosperous Blackburn and Darwen. We are one of the leading youth organisations in Blackburn, with a membership of over 2,500 young people. We are open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year and offer over 40 different activities and opportunities in our open access youth club. The facilities include a 3G pitch, a gym, a sports hall and recreation area, and dance, art, music and media suites, and facilities equipped for a wide range of sporting, artistic, cultural, and general recreational activities, and targeted services. **Context of Role**: Reporting to the Facilities Manager and based at the Darwen Youth Zone site, you will provide a high standard of cleaning services throughout the Darwen Youth Zone. As a critical member of the team you will contribute to ensuring that a great first impression is always given to visitors and that all areas of the Youth Zone are safe and clean to be open at all times. **Main Responsibilities**: - To be responsible for cleaning areas of the Youth Zone, as allocated by the Facilities Officer or another appropriate manager. - To perform a range of cleaning activities including cleaning toilets, sanitary fittings and surrounds; spot cleaning of spillages; wiping furniture, ledges, pipes, paintwork, doors and polishing door glass; emptying and cleaning bins; mopping and spray-cleaning hard floor surfaces; floor polishing; wiping, polishing and straightening furniture; replenishing supplies in toilets; and moving items of furniture and equipment. - To operate cleaning machinery for cleaning soft and hard surfaces, such as vacuum cleaners and polishers. - To follow opening and closing procedures for the Youth Zone, as directed by the Facilities Officer or another appropriate manager. - To report immediately any emergency maintenance problems, including toilets and other water fixtures, or hazards to the Facilities Officer or another appropriate manager. - To actively promote and positively represent the Youth Zone, contributing towards increasing membership and assisting with promotional activities and visits to the Youth Zone. - To comply with all policies and procedures, with particular reference to safeguarding, codes of conduct, health and safety, and equality and diversity, to ensure all activities are safe, accessible and inclusive. - To be an active member of the team, carrying out any other reasonable duties as requested by the management team, and operating in line with the values and principles of the Youth Zone. **Measurable Outputs**: - Darwen site fully clean and ready for use by workers, volunteers and young people by the end of shift (normally 11am) - Cleanliness satisfaction rating > 8 out of 10, scored by Facilities Manager, Workers and Young People on ad hoc basis. **Person Specification**: **Experience**: - Previous cleaning experience - Use of cleaning equipment and machinery (eg floor cleaning machine) **Skills/Abilities**: - Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions - Ability to prioritise work and manage time effectively - Ability to reach, bend, stoop and kneel - Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team - Ability to communicate with a wide range of people and relate well to young - people - Knowledge of health and safety issues relating to cleaning - A willingness to work unsocial hours, predominantly early mornings, including - weekends is required for this post - A willingness to work additional hours to cover events, holidays and staff absence - DBS clearance and committed to Safeguarding children **Working hours** The usual hours of work are 8am to 11am 6 days per week, including Saturday morning. We are looking for this to be a shared job, to enable cover when needed. This would equate to 9 hours per week each for two workers. There may be occasions when working in evenings and weekends are required due to Youth Zone operating hours. **Remuneration package** **Salary**: £11.44 per hour Holidays: 19.8 days (Pro Rata of 33 days) inclusive of 8 Bank Holidays Pension: Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone operates a workplace pension scheme with Royal London for auto-enrolment purposes. You will contribute 5% of your gross earnings whilst the Youth Zone will contribute 3%.
