The team Natural England is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual to undertake the practical management of its National Nature Reserves across the Suffolk Coast. This individual will have a broad understanding and experience of practical land management and ecological survey and monitoring skills, a good understanding of the health and safety and other legal responsibilities associated with practical habitat management (particularly the use of power tools) and the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with volunteers, local communities and partners.Job description

**Key tasks/principal accountabilities**
- Carrying out a wide range of day-to-day operations at National Nature Reserves in accordance with the agreed management plans, under the supervision of the Senior Reserves Manager.
- Practical habitat and access management works, particularly relating to: heathland, woodland, coastal habitats and the maintenance of reserve fabric (e.g. access infrastructure, signage and water control structures).
- The operation of a wide range of equipment, including: chainsaws, brush-cutter/strimmer/clearing saws, 4x4 site vehicles, tractor with various attachments including front-end loader, rotary and flail mowers, trailers and Softrack all-terrain vehicle with attachments, including chipper and forage harvester.
- Carry out an agreed programme of species and habitat monitoring and recording data consistently and clearly e.g. Wetland Bird Survey, nightjar breeding surveys.
- Contribute to developing and maintaining active volunteer networks and wider community participation to support the delivery of our objectives at the reserves.
- Provision of guided walks and events to a wide range of customers and partners.
- Follow health and safety and other legal obligations fully for yourself and assist the Reserve Manager in ensuring that other users (seasonal staff, contractors, visitors and volunteers etc.) meet requirements, whilst ensuring processes and outcomes are documented.
- Repair and maintenance of all tools and equipment, responsible for safe and efficient running of the NNR workshop.
- Installation and maintenance of fences, gates, stiles, signs etc.
- Deputising for Reserve Managers on occasions in the supervision of seasonal staff, contractors and volunteers.

Our staff are based in offices in Norwich and Cambridge, or are home based. We manage 15 NNRs and have NNR bases at Dersingham Bog, Brancaster, Norfolk Broads, Suffolk Coast and Chippenham Fen.
