York, United Kingdom Hiscox Full time

Hiscox is hiring a Scrum Master to manage and support all Scrum activity within our technical delivery teams.

As part of Hiscox UK IT, and reporting to the Agile Delivery Lead, you will be responsible for the coordination and day-to-day activities of squads, comprised of Software, Data, DevOps and QA Engineers, Data Scientists and Architects. You will work with the Squads to drive delivery of multiple features and business value across varied innovation streams.

Within this business-critical coordination role you will:

- Guide and support a cross-disciplined squad employing agile values, principles and practices to deliver value to our business
- Ensure stakeholder engagement, communications and expectations are appropriately managed and aligned
- Facilitate each squad's daily scrum, refinement, sprint planning, sprint review and retrospective; ensuring actions from the sprint retrospectives are prioritised and implemented as backlog items
- Work with the other members of the Agile Chapter to share knowledge, best practices and develop as a team
- Actively participate in the wider Agile / Dev Ops community to aid continuous learning, innovation, best practice and alignment with Hiscox Development teams
- Help the squad to meet their commitments and sprint goals, removing impediments and dependencies as much as possible, escalating where appropriate when the squad is off track, and ensure appropriate action is executed
- Manage late and ad-hoc requests by working with the Product Owner to balance business priorities against existing commitments
- Protect the squads from external interference
- Work closely with the Product Owner to ensure forthcoming Sprints are populated and ready for delivery, the backlog is ordered and refined in time for sprint planning and resource allocation is in place to deliver work
- Work closely with other members of IT to facilitate timely delivery of requests and time resourcing
- Manage and resolve dependencies between squads, working closely with other squad Scrum Masters
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of system/reporting updates and squad administration - including any PMO type admin and reporting that still requires regular inputs from the squad

**Required skills/experience**
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills
- Social, engaging and naturally collaborative with the ability to be a servant leader, organising and motivating the squad without the use of authority
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ensuring confidence in conflict resolution and the ability to tailor own style to the audience
- Knowledge of the Agile methodology and the benefits to Agile product delivery

**At Hiscox we care about our people. We hire the best people for the job and we're committed to diversity and creating a truly inclusive culture, which we believe drives success.

We have also learned over the past 15 months that working life doesn't always have to be in the office, and when it's safe to do so, we will be introducing hybrid ways of working to encourage a healthy work life balance.

We see it as the best of both worlds: structure and sociability on one hand, and independence and flexibility on the other.
