**About the job**

**Salary**: £26,446 - £29,174 per annum (pro-rata for part-time).

**Working Pattern**: Full-time, 37 hours per week.

**Location**: Based at Buchan Country Park, near Crawley, travel around the eastern side of West Sussex (see map provided)

Access Rangers are responsible for managing the routine Inspection and Maintenance Programme in their area, identifying work for the maintenance contractor to carry out along with any other issues. The County is divided into 6 areas, each the responsibilityof an Access Ranger.

You will investigate reports from the public and other stakeholders providing technical and legal advice and seeking solutions where appropriate. You will organise and carry out rights of way inspections, working with volunteers who carry out approximately50% of the inspections.

As an Access Ranger you will log, and update issues using our Rights of Way IT system and also identify work to be delivered by volunteers or the Annual Works Programme.

The role requires a significant amount of lone working and up to 6 hours of walking a day. As a guide the role is approximately one-third on site and two
- thirds office based. Prioritising and organising workloads is a fundamental part of the role. The postholdermay be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

**There are two posts on offer, a full-time permanent post covering the eastern area of the county from Crawley down to the coast at Shoreham and a part time temporary post covering the area around Midhurst down to the coast at Bognor.**

**Experience and skills**

**Key Skills**:

- Ability to work in a customer focused way.
- Ability to organise/prioritise work, co-ordinate a variety of tasks in a clear and logical way and meet agreed deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently, planning solutions and make sound pragmatic decisions.
- Computer literate.

**Qualifications and/or experience**:

- Significant experience of practical access and rights of way management, either within an office or in the field, including implementation of legislation, day to day maintenance, small improvement projects and providing advice and practical assistance tolandowners, farmers, the public and other interested parties.
- Experience of dealing with the public and the proven ability to represent the County Council.
- Experience of working in partnership with external bodies, agencies or individuals (including volunteers).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Good practical access management skills including use of hand tools.
