Cleaner (Part-time)

**Role Description**

St Pauls is a busy and dynamic Church of England parish church, located close to the centre of Weston-super-Mare. We run a wide variety of Christian and community events and activities throughout the week, focussed across all age ranges from our babies and toddlers groups, through youth groups and student work, up to our seniors’ events and support schemes.

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic new cleaner, to provide flexible and resourceful support to the work of the church and to be responsible for the smooth operation of all aspects of housekeeping and cleaning.

Accountable to: Head of Operations on a day-to-day basis and overall to the Vicar and Church Wardens.

Job Purpose:
To provide an efficient and comprehensive cleaning role for our church, ensuring

that the church building offers a pleasant, safe, clean and welcoming space to all building users and visitors.

As a Christian organisation we are looking to recruit a new member of staff who is sensitive to our Christians values and ethos.

This position will involve working in an environment that caters directly with children and vulnerable adults. An Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service including a check of barred lists will be required for the post-holder, alongside safeguarding training.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensure that all areas assigned for cleaning are kept clean and hygienic, overseeing the church cleaning team and ensuring that all necessary cleaning products and sanitary supplies are well stocked and cleaning equipment is kept in good working order and stored away safely when not in use.

2. Regularly wash and iron all church linen including tablecloths and kitchenware, along with cleaning cloths and mop heads, monitoring use and replacing equipment when worn out.

3. Oversee non-routine cleaning activities during quieter periods (school holidays) including an annual deep clean of the kitchen and carpet and high-level surface cleaning as required.

4. Supervise the use of waste and recycling bins, ensuring that waste is kept to a minimum and that all recyclables are appropriately managed.

5. Oversee the buying policy for cleaning products to ensure that it meets our EcoChurch aims to buy locally produced, fairly traded, animal friendly, recycled or recyclable/reusable and ethical products.

6. As a key member of the staff team, to actively serve and support everyone who comes through the church doors.

7. To attend an annual appraisal and regular one to ones with line manager (Operations Director)

8. To submit weekly timesheets to cover the details of the hours worked.

9. To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required that are commensurate with the housekeeper’s level of responsibility and experience.

10. To be a church key holder.

Location and Hours:
The primary location is St Paul's Church, Walliscote Road, BS232YE.

The job is contracted flexible part time, with an average minimum of approximately 9-12 hrs/week, arranged flexibly across 5 days (Monday - Friday). This will average to approximately 0.3 FTE.

These hours will include:

- Monday morning: 3 hours clean of church hall & church building and cleaning equipment stock check (toilets, floors, hand towels etc)
- Wednesday afternoon: 3 hours clean of church building & Church Hall
- Friday morning: 3 hours clean of church building & Church Hall
- Extra hours may be required on an adhoc basis around event bookings.

Ad hoc: ironing church linen, washing cleaning cloths and mop heads, purchase of cleaning equipment as required.

**Salary**: Wages are paid monthly from £9.50 per hour.

Holidays: St Pauls offers statutory leave entitlement, paid in accordance with the current Working Time Directive legislation.

Key competencies

The job holder must:

- Be well motivated, proactive and able to work with mínimal supervision
- Be punctual and have good time management skills
- Have a good attention to detail and show consistency
- Be trustworthy and discrete.
- Be able to manage a schedule of work and be able to prioritise and plan the tasks each week.
- Demonstrate some knowledge of building maintenance and Health & Safety procedures
- Be able to climb stairs, use ladders safely and do medium to heavy work including lifting and moving of cleaning equipment and furniture
- Be able to attend appropriate training as required
- The successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS check
