Sheffield Treatment and Recovery Team (START), Sheffield’s Substance Misuse Treatment Service as delivered by SHSC has an overarching objective to reduce the harm which substance misuse causes for individuals, communities and their families.
The Sheffield Substance Misuse Treatment Service is an integrated multi-disciplinary Nurse, Drug Worker, Psychosocial Intervention (PSI) and Medical team based at the Fitzwilliam Centre and Sidney Street Centre. We provide a citywide drug and alcohol treatment and support service, commissioned to treat up to 3500 patients within Alcohol, Opiates Non-opiate treatment, and Criminal Justice pathways..
We are looking to recruit Recovery Workers to be part of our service working into pathways that support individuals requiring specialist support to address their alcohol use, opiate drug use, non-opiate drug use, offending behaviours linked to substance use, and homelessness linked to substance use.
The job requires the assessment, planning and review of integrated programmes of care for substance misusers with regards to ‘wrap around’ services - (training, education, support, benefits and housing advice) to promote engagement of service user in the recovery treatment pathway.

- Undertake triage assessments, developing and implementing care packages based on a collaborative formulation of needs.
- Provide Needle Exchange services in line with the commissioned service
- Deliver brief advice/interventions and extended brief interventions, delivering informal PSI/key working interventions incorporating the use of manualised care packages and ITEP 2 and BTEI 3 based interventions
- Utilise all screening tools as part of assessment and evaluation of patient care.
- Provide alcohol/drug work input as part of an integrated team in substance misuse, including managing an agreed caseload in both a clinical and community setting in line with relevant policies using strategies to minimise unplanned activity, referring to senior colleagues where required work with service users who are both diverse and complex
- Under the supervision of the nurses (for those in a clinical treatment pathway, follow and support the agreed care plan and support the provision of treatment by providing wrap around services in line with commissioned recovery care pathway. Including assisting service user to explore future employment, training, education opportunities and support access to housing and accommodation.
- Support the outreach function of the service where required
- Identify and screen cohorts of substance misusers out in the community
- Develop and implement recovery based care packages based on a collaborative formulation of the service user needs.
- Ensure that all service user have a clearly defined and agreed individual programme of care designed to meet their needs.
- In conjunction with the nurses, evaluating and reviewing recovery care plans and risk assessments at appropriate intervals using both service user’ reports and validated standardised measurement tools.
- Ensure all service users receive appropriate follow-up.
- Work in partnership with service users and their relatives where appropriate to support their engagement in treatment.
- Provide progress reports and maintaining effective communication and liaison with referrers.
