**About The Role**
The role of Senior Legal Counsel within the Legal Function is to provide advice on a range of matters across the Society and assist the business in managing risk (whether legal, reputational or compliance).
This Senior Legal Counsel role includes advising on a broad spectrum of legal issues but will have a focus on Products (mortgages and savings).
You will work as part of the Products team, reporting to the Lead Counsel, which has overall responsibility for the Products team. You’ll provide guidance, support and development opportunities to others including through knowledge sharing, supported delegationand promoting opportunities for development. You will be able to assess, prioritise and delegate work within the team.
You’ll respond to queries from stakeholders and undertake the engagement of external legal or non-legal experts as required. Working closely with other teams in the Legal Function and wider Society you’ll ensure that the Society remains compliant with legaland regulatory requirements in your area and acts in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
You will at all times ensure that an appropriate level of consistent and accurate advice and support is delivered to stakeholders in a highly compliant, professional and timely manner and consider the impact of your advice and the actions of the business onthe risk appetite of the Society (whether legal, reputational or compliance related).
**About You**
You will be legally qualified with strong experience and deep knowledge of the legal issues relating to mortgage and/or savings products, as well as broad multi-disciplinary experience and experience working in a complex and busy workplace.
You will be developing professional skills, knowledge and experience in your specialist area but also have good broad legal knowledge. You’ll have financial services experience and/or experience of working in a regulated environment.
You have the skills to advise colleagues in a commercially practical and common-sense manner. You have a strong alignment to the Society’s values and can evidence this in the way you manage and prioritise the activities for which you have responsibility.
You’ll be a highly organised person with proven communication skills, who can inspire confidence from senior stakeholders and manage stakeholder expectations. You’ll work cohesively as part of a team and will work closely with other teams within the Legal Function,as well as the Head of Legal and other senior colleagues.
You will have strong drafting, research, negotiation, analytical and influencing skills, the ability to work effectively as part of the wider team and Legal Function is essential.
