**Summary**:
The Regimental Headquarters of the Royal Welsh Regiment is based at Maindy Barracks, Cardiff. The organisation is a small, closely knit team. Our Headquarters forms part of Headquarters Infantry but receives policy direction from the Colonel of The Regiment and Divisional Lieutenant Colonel.
Its purpose is to project a strong regimental ethos and to support all elements of the regimental family to promote the Regiment, encourage recruiting and to improve the efficiency of The Royal Welsh in peace and war.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
**Job description**:
The role holder is a key contact for regimental issues. They are responsible for representing the regiment through outreach and community engagement, as well as providing a wide range of support services and advice to the regiment.
***The individual will work closely with serving and retired personnel and have responsibility for various regimental matters. They will also respond to enquiries from members of the public in relation to the current and antecedent regiments.
***This job requires a credible regimental representative both within the Army and within the regimental recruiting area. The job holder will develop a sound knowledge of the legal framework relating to charities, health and safety, equal opportunities, and property management.
**Responsibilities**:
An important aspect of the position is facilitating positive media interest through collaboration with County Councils and internal partners (including military media operations and battalions). The post holder will be responsible for publishing relevant news through our Regimental Website, social media accounts and the Regimental Journal.
There is also a responsibility to assist in the promotion of the ‘Army in Society’ throughout the Principality, giving particular attention and support to public events and initiatives.
Part of this is to engage and connect with the supportive Royal Welsh community by working towards increasing the number of Counties that have awarded the Regiment 'The Freedom of the County' (23 to date) and organising Freedom and Re-affirmation parades by working closely with Battalions, Army Cadet Forces and the Regimental Association. It is hoped that by cultivating and developing these community relationships, this will help enable future parades to be held in other parts of Wales.
There is also a requirement to plan and implement Homecoming Parades and to develop the Regiment’s Officers’ Society including coordinating annual dinners and St David’s Day Lunches.
***This role is also the focal point for the Royal Welsh Club which acts as a supporting mechanism for veterans seeking employment opportunities and in enabling those who require it to receive support from mental health experts.
***We expect the post holder to be active in the development of regimental museums. This will include co-coordinating the three regimental museums through The Royal Welsh Regimental Museum Trust (reflecting all antecedent regiments’ history) and working with 'Firing Line' in Cardiff in addition to museums in Brecon and Caernarfon to continue to promote today’s regiment.
To encourage the museums to operate optimally, each with appropriate dynamism that engages with today’s younger community members in their region of Wales and beyond.
To increase museum interest within our Army Cadet Force, the Regimental Association and wider community.
To develop closer affiliation with the Royal Welsh Fusilier’s Regimental Collection Trust.
The post holder will be encouraged to assist with the preparation of and possible representation of the Headquarters at Veterans’ funerals. In acute circumstances, the job holder may be required to act as ‘Casualty Notifying Officer’ and ‘Casualty Visiting Officer’, liaising with bereaved families, and signposting to support for any outstanding welfare problems. Should this situation arise, full training will be given.
***Essential Criteria
To be self-motivated, highly organised and co-ordinate activity to enable effective working across the team, deputising for the Regimental Secretary as required.
You will have excellent communication skills and be confident engaging at all levels of seniority, including military, civilian and across government.
You are reactive to changing circumstances and calmly, effectively lead and prioritise a fast-paced workload
