Do you want to join us at an exciting time for Legal Services? Do you enjoy a challenge? Do you like to make a difference? Do you want to work in a beautiful part of the Country for two forward-thinking shared authorities?
We are offering opportunities to customer-focused individuals who welcome change and the challenge of delivering improvement. In return, we can offer flexible working in an environment where innovation, challenge and efficiency are key aspects.
Our Councils have adopted new, exciting, innovative and forward-looking corporate strategies setting out our visions and priorities for our unique areas. Consequently, we have restructured and expanded our Legal Services Team to support the delivery of these priorities, creating new opportunities for those that are looking for a challenge in helping shape and enhance this new Legal Team. To support the Head of Legal & Monitoring Officer, we have created two smaller teams: a Regulatory Team and Property & Contracts Team
Working for both West Devon Borough Council and South Hams District Council, and reporting to the Head of Legal Services & Monitoring Officer, the Principal Regulatory Lawyer (Lead) is responsible for leading the Governance and Regulatory arm of the Legal Services Team. This Lead role is also responsible for leading the Property and Contracts arm of the Team, and is responsible for managing the work and members of the Regulatory Team.
Legal Services report directly to the Director of Strategy & Governance and are responsible for supporting the Councils to deliver their Corporate Strategies and strategic visions through the provision of professional, high quality and customer-focused legal services to the Councils. The Principal Regulatory Lawyer (Lead) is specifically responsible for providing professional legal advice and support to the Councils’ development management, strategic planning, planning enforcement and regulatory functions, together with representing the Councils in courts, inquires and tribunals, and providing legal advice and support to both Councils’ Development Management and Licensing Committees.
The Principal Regulatory Lawyer (Lead) is the business partner for the Development Management Team by proactively engaging and collaborating with them about their business needs.
The Principal Regulatory Lawyer (Lead) is also one of two deputy Monitoring Officers working with the Monitoring Officer to respond to code of conduct complaints and other governance-related issues.
This role attracts a golden hello of up to £5000 and a relocation package is available to eligible applicants.
**IMPACT: Band B**
The IMPACT Behavioural Framework has been developed to support the ambitions for our workforce. The framework aims to enhance both individual and organisational performance and will be applied in recruitment, performance management and career progression. It defines the behaviours that all colleagues across both councils are expected to consistently demonstrate at work. The framework can be found on the right hand side of this page under ‘Related Information’.
