Your New role
National Highways have an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join our construction projects delivery team in the North West Region. Within this role, you will be supporting the delivery of a portfolio of highway construction, maintenanceand improvement projects on our large variety of roads and structures within the North West. The Assistant Project Manager will support planning management and delivery of allocated highway construction projects within the Region’s 5 year rolling capital programme.Monitoring the performance of project teams, multiple external contactors and consultants. Ensuring adherence to effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards across the supply chain and National Highways ensuringsuccessful delivery of agreed project outcomes and acting in line with mandatory and delegated responsibilities. This role plays a pivotal part in supporting the local economy making sure transport links run safely and smoothly.
What you’ll be leading on
Support the delivery of complex highway construction projects whilst managing standard allocated projects within the Region’s rolling 5 year capital programme, across all stages of the project lifecycle, from design to introduction into service
Develop, support and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Project Managers, key stakeholders, suppliers, contractors and across Highways England teams, to ensure full mutual understanding for the allocated projects. Report on and review deliveryperformance, to develop solutions that resolve issues and to prepare project business cases
Assist Project Managers to manage and motivate multiple supply chain partners and contractors to deliver allocated projects to programme, cost and quality, whilst driving efficiencies
To support compliance with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, including CDM 2015 regulations, ensuring our supply chain fulfil their duties.
Comply with Highways England Operations Quality Management System (QMS) on all projects in scope to enable delivery within agreed parameters for quality, cost and time ensuring they meet intended outcomes, customer service levels, corporate technical, specialisthealth and safety
To support the delivery of scheme specific Communication Plans, proactively managing customers’ perception of the schemes in scope, to maintain or improve customer satisfaction scores; respond to customer enquiries and other scheme related matters as and whenrequired.
Assist in programme management, reporting and risk management against the capital expenditure budgets for all projects in scope, ensuring effective financial and contractual practices are in place and adhered to by all project resources
Assist, manage and deliver high quality customer engagement/communication throughout the delivery of their projects.
To be Successful
Awareness of relevant legislation, practices and policies for health, safety, environment and wellbeing in construction, including CDM Regs 2015.
Recognised qualification in relevant engineering discipline or significant experience in the delivery of their allocated Civil Engineering projects (desirable)
Project management experience - related qualifications, e.g. APM, Prince2. (desirable)
Awareness of Understanding contract management under the NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract
Excellent stakeholder management and communications skills
Ability to execute tasks independently, yet work collaboratively within a team

Good personal impact and the ability to inspire confidence through proactive action
