The Head of 2D, London is a leadership role in the film and episodic division that has a strong focus on talent management and nurturing of the compositing team, from junior through to senior compositors.

The Head of 2D position will suit someone who doesn't want to be project-based and wants a managerial role that has more standard working hours, is heavily involved in the future planning of the compositing crew across all projects at the Framestore London site, identifying and hiring new compositing talent and ensuring that Framestore’s compositing team is of the highest standard possible, and working as a coherent and energised team.

Responsibilities include
- Show set up for all new shows to provide consistency throughout the facility
- Mentoring comp supes and compositors in Nuke
- Working closely with the department manager to ensure that compositors are scheduled on the work that matches their skills and interests, as well as meeting the needs of projects
- Conducting annual reviews with the compositing team
- Following up with career goals of compositors, ensuring that they receive the opportunities that they need to remain focused and to progress their skills
- Provide advice and individual mentoring for any compositors who aren’t performing to the standard required
- Involvement with all projects and their compositing needs when required, problem-solving issues in compositing that is related to a team or an individual
- Work closely with the Global Head of 2D to develop the compositing teams’ careers in the company
- Work with the recruitment team on the recruitment of all local compositors, from junior through to
- senior in addition to comp supervision
- Work closely with the Global Head of 2D to identify the training needs of the compositing team,
- helping to plan local training with the training manager
- Maintain a close relationship with all VFX, CG and Comp supervisors in London, with the common goal of keeping the quality of compositing to the highest standard possible and in order to understand their individual project needs
- Work closely with the local head of department for roto and paint to evaluate internal career opportunities from the paint and roto department
- Keep up to date on all the latest technologies and colour science developments (ACES)
- Work with Global Head of 2D to explore and test new software and technologies that would suit
- Framestore compositing needs and helps streamline our 2D workflow
- An active member of the 2D board meetings
- Understanding Baselight and liaising with the tech-grading department for show needs

Required skills
- Highly skilled and respected compositor with extensive experience across a wide variety of projects in terms of media platforms and scale who shows an understanding of the nature and varied demands of long-form and short term projects
- In-depth understanding and hands-on experience in Nuke, Python and large scale film pipelines
- In-depth understanding of the colour pipeline and colour spaces
- Genuine interest in the career development of compositors, with a passion for building the best compositing team in the business
- Great project planning and problem-solving skills
- Approachable and friendly, with solid management skills
- Ability to bring the best out of artists, and work to improve compositors if they are underperforming
- A collaborative approach to problem-solving, bringing both project leaders and the team members along with your decisions
