**Technical Infrastructure Engineer
£30,000 - £35,000 Role Profile** The Technical Infrastructure Engineer is a key role within the business. This role is one of the most senior technical positions in the company and requires a high level of technical competence, industry knowledge and commercial appreciation.The Infrastructureteam is responsible for the design, delivery and support of highly technical solutions and services across over a hundred sites in the UK, and as such need to work to exacting standards of quality and professionalism at all times.

**Objectives and responsibilities**:

- Implement, manage and maintain the computing, data, storage, backup and security networks. This includes the support of the core business and operational support systems attached to those networks.
- Carry out regular capacity planning on all components of the platform and infrastructure to ensure the service is fit for purpose, identifying expansion requirements needed to support growth
- Contribute towards the training and development other teams.
- Ensure the uptime and service availability of the core virtualized server platform
- Ability to troubleshoot effectively in order to quickly resolve faults on the computing, data, storage and security networks
- Be able to communicate effectively with key suppliers of the systems in use from a support and implementation perspective and have excellent customer focus.
- Be able to troubleshoot complex issues and be ableto link together seemingly unrelated problems that are all elements in the same
- Be able to prioritise and manage their workload effectively.

**Detailed Job Specification**
- Core Responsibilities.
- Work within Company policies and guidelines.
- Be involved in the design, implementation and specialist support for all data networks across all locations. This includes Local Area Networks and liasinig with the managed WAN providers for effective fault resolution.
- Provide expert support for workstations & servers running Microsoft Server \ workstation Products, Citrix, Linux.
- Implement and Provide expert support on storage both local and network based.
- Server Planning, Design, Build and Fault fixing.
- Use of Group Policy and Active Directory to control workstation and server behaviour across the network, audting users & ensure it is working correctly.
- Ensure all backup processes for network equipment and servers are robust running according to the backup policy.
- Ensure IT systems are protected against virus infections and infections are controlled in accordance with best practice
- Provide a mentoring and advisory role to other staff within the Infrastructure team and other departments across the business.
- Ensure server and network documentation is maintained up-to-date, accurately and in an easily understood manner.
- Be involved in regular audits of company equipment and software used and recommend improvements and upgrades.
- To implement and document policies, standards and procedures, proposing upgrades and enhancements to these from the basis of own expert knowledge, and experience with the installed equipment.
- Liase with key suppliers and customers to ensure the effective delivery or projects and products.
- Be available as part of the out of hours on call rota, and be able to effectively prioritse and troubleshoot issues affecting critical services.

The post holder will provide installation, troubleshooting and specialist support service for a complete Range of IT Equipment including:

- Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Servers
- Citrix Xenserver Operating Systems
- Switches (Layer 2 and Layer 3) and routers.
- Unix / Linux Operating Systems
- Storage Area Networks
- Broadband equipment
- Wireless Networks
- Disk Management Systems
- Internet / Web based services
- Backup and recovery systems
- Disaster Recovery protection systems
- Specialist Application software
- File server and network monitoring systems
- VPN technologies
- Telephony

**Essential Attributes**
- At least six years experience in a similar specialist support role
- A detailed understanding of network management within a heterogeneous environment comprising Citrix Xenserver, Microsoft Windows Server, and Linux (Debian) computer operating systems.
- Use of Active Directory, Group policy and File permissions in MIcosroft and Linux (Debian)
- A detailed understanding of TCP/IP networking to include NAT, Spanning Tree, HSRP, VLANs, routing of traffic and the use of subnets.
- An ability to maintain regular backups of Servers using a mixture of back up and recovery products.
- An ability to configure and troubleshoot, switches, firewalls routers and wireless networks
- A detailed understanding of Cat 5 structured and fibre optic cabling systems
- The post holder will have the ability to produce Technical Documentation to an agreed standard.
- Keep abreast of industry technology and advise on vendor product developments
- Continually seek advances and innovations to progress the technical aspect of our products and service offering
- Flexibility to work outside normal working out either as part of a formal out-of-hours on-call service or as demands of the service dictate.
- Flexibility to travel between core sites to assist with new service implementation and support issues.
