Investment Strategist

The Role:
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) the Investment Strategist will have a significant role to play in the Investment team in its management of the Canopius investment portfolio (currently $3bn AUM but expected to grow in line with management plan over coming years).

The Investment Strategist will be responsible for monitoring economic developments (especially in the United States, UK and Europe), investment market conditions (particularly across credit) and for assessing the implications of these developments for the Strategic Asset Allocation (‘SAA’), external investment managers’ risk profiles and for Tactical Asset Allocation (‘TAA’) positioning delegated down to the investment team by the Group Board.

The individual will work closely with the CIO and within the investment team to develop and manage the investment infrastructure, so as to enhance investment returns and company profitability.

The position will also interact with other departments in Canopius, including Treasury, Capital Management and Business Planning.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ongoing investment analysis and views, including monitoring economic and market developments
- Formulate proposals for risk appetite, SAA and TAA (including the derivative hedging overlay)
- Provide input, including commentary, to quarterly investment and board reports
- Be a present part of investment team in its delivery of business as usual

Skills and Experience:

- Experienced investment professional (fixed income portfolio management an advantage) who is looking to take on a flexible / part time role to add their skills to a focused internal insurance investment team
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Proficient user of Bloomberg
- Prior experience in the investment industry is essential
- A strong fundamental understanding of economics, geopolitics and all publicly traded asset classes and typical strategies used by managers in those asset classes
- Experience of private credit investment opportunities
- A strong understanding of derivative strategies so as to hedge portfolio risk
