Job description

**Youth and Community Serious Youth Violence Outreach Worker (18 month fixed term contract)**

This is an opportunity to join an experienced, creative and high performing team in a culturally diverse area with great opportunities for training and development.

**We are looking for a detached Youth Worker who**:

- Is effective in building engaging and influential relationships with young people involved in or on the periphery of the Criminal Justice System and improving their life chances
- Is able to seek out and engage young people in the contexts in which they socialise and engage in anti-social behaviour and divert them from this behaviour into constructive activities
- Is able to effectively assess the needs of young people involved in anti-social or offending behaviour and plan and implement innovative interventions
- can work in partnership and forge positive relationships with key agencies, e.g. education, police, social care and health
- can represent the Youth Justice Service competently and confidently in a range of contexts
- can implement programmes which support desistance and divert young people from offending
- are able to encourage restorative processes and foster enhanced victim empathy
- can work collaboratively with young people and their parents and support them to communicate and work together towards positive goals.

**Essential Qualification(s) and Experience**:

- Substantial experience of working in a field related to youth offending in an inner city context
- Experience of undertaking risk assessment, planning, delivering and reviewing interventions to address offending behaviour/promote child welfare/meet social need.
- Experience of working within a multi-agency setting and drawing on the strengths of agencies in the contribution they can make to reduce offending behaviour.

This role is deemed customer facing and as such you must have a command of spoken English which is sufficient to enable you to effectively perform the role. This requirement relates to Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016
