Maintenance Gardener

We operate predominantly in the East London and Docklands area and are currently looking to expand our team to meet business growth demands. We are now recruiting for a Junior and experienced Maintenance Gardener who is self-motivated, enthusiastic, and looking for a long-term position in a small, friendly and growing business.

Driving is not essential but desirable, and you would be expected to follow a weekly rota / schedule of work with a team of one or more employees for each site. Responsibilities include general garden maintenance and development of various private gardens and commercial residential grounds mainly in the North/East London/Essex and surrounding areas, creating tidy, safe garden environments which are enjoyable for residents, owners and visitors.

Previous experience in a similar role using garden maintenance machinery and tools e.g. pedestrian mowers; strimmers, leaf blowers etc. is required, a full driving licence and horticultural knowledge, along with a keen eye for detail and precision and safe working practices are essential.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Ensure the appearance of clients’ grounds meet or exceed expectations and excellent client service are always achieved.
- Carrying out a varied range of gardening duties, under supervision and use of own initiative
- A wide range of maintenance and improvement responsibilities such as, Soil cultivation, lawn maintenance, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, litter and debris clearing, hedge reductions, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation and planting.
- The use of a wide range of hand tools, horticultural machinery and powered hand tools, such as lawn mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters etc.
- Report unusual site conditions to the shift supervisor / manager / company director.
- Ensuring the safe operation of all tools, keeping in good and safe working order.
- Assisting with garden construction and other aspects of grounds/garden improvements.
- Care for assigned vehicle including cleaning and basic maintenance i.e. oil checks, screen wash, tyre pressure check (where applicable),
- Use of natural methods for plant protection and pest control, (where feasible) only using chemicals/ pesticides where suitably qualified.
- Communicate regularly with the shift supervisor / manager regarding day to day maintenance operations.
- Liaising with property management agents, residents and clients representing the company being curtious, knowledgeable, helpful and polite at all times.
- Complete site checklists and take photographs daily to record work completed on each visit.
- Partaking in training as required.
- Assisting in marketing tasks, such as handing out flyers and promoting the business to prospective new clients.
- Picking up colleagues / dropping off tools / emptying waste from trailer using the company van /trailer (where allocated / licence permits).
- Reporting all accidents, incidents or near-misses.

Any other ad-hoc duties as assigned (note during low season Landscaping duties will be required and periodic assistance throughout the year where necessary. e.g. assisting erecting fencing/ sheds / laying paving etc.)

Knowledge /Experience / Qualifications
- RHS Level 2 or NVQ Level 2 or equivalent experience in a similar position (desirable).
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in residential / commercial garden maintenance (desirable)
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in garden maintenance operations (desirable)
- Knowledge of standard horticultural practices (desirable)
- Knowledge of growth characteristics and identification of a wide variety of plants (desirable)
- Basic first aid certificate or greater (desirable)
- PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates (desirable)
- Experience of driving vans (desirable)
