- To support access to learning for students within the College with SEND and medical needs.
- To provide support to staff across the College regarding strategies to include and support students with medical needs and help in the management of students with medical needs in the College under the direction of the Senior Specialist SENDCo, School Nurse and Health Care Professionals.

**Key Responsibilities**

**To work under the direct instruction of**:

- The Senior Specialist SENDCo to offer support and guidance in enabling students with medical needs to access their learning.
- The teaching staff, usually in the classroom with the teacher, to support access to learning for students with medical needs and provide general support to the teacher in the management of students and the classroom.
- To support the work of the faculties by developing strategies across the school for working with young people with medical conditions.
- To liaise with parents/carers, other staff and external agencies involved in supporting the learners.
- To liaise with medical professionals regarding a students individual needs and care.

**Main duties and responsibilities**:

- To support access to learning, within the classroom, for students with medical needs.
- Support the Senior Specialist SENDCo in writing, maintaining and reviewing Individual Health Care Plans, Intimate Care Plans and Medical Risk Assessments.
- Deliver Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy programs as provided by health care practitioners.
- Complete First Aid and Administering Medication training and attend any enhanced medical training provided by health care services and the College.
- Ensure that identified students have their personal care needs met including, but not limited to, feeding, changing and toileting.
- Provide specific specialist support to individual students as per their Health Care Plans.
- Give non-discriminatory care and support that values the diverse and unique qualities of each student, seeing the whole person and not merely their care needs.
- Follow the instructions of the care and support plans of each individual student.
- Rigorously follow College procedures and policy in relation to changing, hygiene, lifting and medicine.
- Safely use specialist equipment, beds and hoists in accordance with the general training/guidelines provided and in line with individual health care plans.
- Ensure that the maintenance of student dignity is paramount at all times.
- Build positive relationships with students, parent/carers, staff and other professionals within College.
- Report any changes or causes for concern to your line manager immediately and be clear about when to seek help and advice in order to keep students safe and promote their well-being.
- To be responsible for the care of the hygiene and medical rooms, equipment, apparatus and materials as required.
- To be responsible for the care of specialist class chairs and equipment.
- Where students need to work in a hydrotherapy pool, to work as directed to assist students in getting changed and showered prior to going into the pool.
- Assist with the hoisting of students in and out of the hydrotherapy pool.
- Assist with break time and lunch time duties in relation to supporting students with eating and drinking and personal care.
- Ensure medicines are managed and dispensed according to policy and individual care plans.
- Attend to first aid in accordance with relevant training and policy.
- To be responsible for the completion of and the keeping up to date of specialist training.
