Aiming to inspire a generation of Canford pupils to achieve their potential in sport and to promote their physical wellbeing throughout their lives, the role of the Head of Netball is to plan and deliver a dynamic programme including coaching pupils and developing staff and giving support and advice regarding netball and any related activities.
**VISION**
Our programme must offer all of our pupils the chance to explore the opportunities that sport offers, allow them to express themselves through their physical wellbeing activities and facilitate those who wish to excel in their chosen path. The aim is to inspire a generation of Canford pupils to achieve their potential in sport and to promote their physical wellbeing throughout their lives.
**OVERALL PURPOSE**
The role of the Head of Netball will be to plan and deliver a dynamic programme including coaching pupils and developing staff and giving support and advice regarding netball and any related activities. It will involve attending events both at Canford and at external venues, accompanying and supervising pupils.
**Key Responsibilities**
The Head of Netball will be responsible for:
**Providing leadership, organisation and promotion of the sport of netball at Canford.**
- Produce a scheme of work for the school Netball programme, across all year groups, to enhance the development of the players of all abilities and all age groups - ensuring a culture which ensures opportunity and access for elite players alongside inclusion and participation for all.
- Ensuring a sustainable and meaningful competitive fixture programme for all levels and abilities
- Planning and delivering a co-ordinated coach development programme
- Ensuring coaching staff are fully aware of their netball commitment and team responsibility, while remaining sensitive to the broader responsibilities faced by these staff.
- Monitor the quality of Netball coaching throughout the School - building in observation times, and supporting staff development by developing a plan to improve the skills existing staff, in both coaching and umpiring, particularly those who are not Netball specialists while remaining sensitive to the broader responsibilities faced by these coaches.
- Lead the briefing for Netball Coaches at the start of term; setting out clear goals and procedures for the sport, together with expectations for both staff and pupils.
- Promoting Canford School within the local sporting community including organising appropriate events and visits, liaising with the marketing and development departments as necessary
- Involvement in local representative netball and / or attending county and regional trials to identify potential netball scholars and reinforcing the profile of netball at Canford
- Attending and contributing to Sports department meetings
- Writing up performance reports for sports scholars and key players / teams
- Editing and dissemination of match video footage
- Monitoring and maintaining the standards of dress, kit and conduct in netball.
- Deliver the Netball aspect of the Summer Sports Academy at Canford
In conjunction with Director of Sport and Physical Wellbeing (DSPW)**:
- Drawing up and administering the netball budget and purchasing appropriate equipment and resources for the delivery of the programme.
- Implementing and updating the Health and Safety policy and risk assessment for netball each year
- Planning tours and festival
- Arranging visits to feeder Prep Schools to offer coaching sessions as part of our talent identification process
- Selecting sports scholars at 13+ and 16+ as appropriate.
- Providing input and information to develop, monitor and review the performance of sports scholars and oversee the programmes of high performing netballers within the school
In conjunction with the Sports Administrator:
- Communicating results and news about the school’s sporting achievements
- Arranging full school block fixtures, district, county, regional and national tournaments and cup matches, pre-season and friendly matches to meet the needs of all pupils playing netball.
- Liaising with the Groundsmen and Sports Centre manager regarding court requirements for school and when hosting any state school / prep school / events.
- Collating netball reports and results each week, at half term and end of term and for key assembly announcements, web site updates and local / national media
- Organising and delivering House netball competitions
- Coordinating and facilitating the transport of pupils to representative squads for trials, training and matches
- Ensuring timely communication of information such as publication of sports team lists, results etc. internally and externally (including information to the Headmaster, Marketing and other interested parties so that they can deliver accurate sports reports, marketing publications and maintain an up to date website)
