**£25,578 - £26,985 pro-rata inclusive of higher cost allowance - AfC equivalent band 3**

This post is directly employed by the London Borough of Newham, whom was the first London borough to offer a fully integrated 0-19 health and social care service after we assumed direct responsibility for providing School Nursing services, Health Visiting and Family Nurse Partnership in 2017. Therefore our Brighter Futures directorate will be delivering the 0-19 Healthy Child programme through the Childrens Health 0-19 Service.
We have a stable and permanent management team in the School Health Service and are now recruiting School Health Screeners to the remaining vacancies in our School Health Team.

**The Children's Health 0-19 service had their CQC inspection in 2021 and rated Good in all areas.**

**Term time and pro-rata explained**:
**Term time**:working during school term time but paid all year round at a pro-rata rate
**Pro-rate**: The salary and annual leave allowances are based on the number of weeks worked by the term time member of staff compared to the number of weeks worked by a full time employee on a 36 hours per week all year round contract. Payment for annual leave will be included in the 12 equal salary payments.
The overall purpose of the job is to;
- To support the Nursery Nurses within a defined case load of schools where they will independently deliver both the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) and hearing and vision screening under the support and guidance of the nursery nurse skill mix.
- To deliver pre-NCMP and hearing and vision sessions for parents/carers of eligible children under the guidance / partnership with the Nursery Nurse.
- To know the standards required when booking and negotiating the space in schools to perform the NCMP and screening sessions including completing risk assessments of the allocated spaces.
- To have an understanding of the Infection Control Policy and what the expected standards are for a school screening session and comply with the annual mandatory infection control training.
- To deal with enquiries from schools and parents/carers regarding the screening programmes and refer any concerns to the Nursery Nurse or School Nurses
- To be able to use digital systems such as Thomson School screener and NHS digital to input data in order to support the clinicians in making sound clinical decisions.
- To be able to accurately document on clients electronic records such as RIO, all client contact and screening outcomes.
- To support with dissemination, completion and collation of School Entry Health Assessment (SEHA) questionnaires and make screening decisions utilising the information obtained.
- To be able to escalate to the Nursery Nurse, School Nurse or Specialist Clinical Leader and act accordingly if any safeguarding concerns arise from or during a screening session such as identifying potential neglect, physical abuse or disclosure to the named school nurse.

**_About You _**
- Minimum NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent
- Maths and English GCSE C or equivalent Foundation skills
- Childhood Studies Level 2
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Competent IT skills and ability to use common software packages e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with children.
- Ability to be professional, emotionally intelligent and able to communicate effectively in diverse situations.
