We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and creative Occupational Therapist with mental health rehabilitation experience, who can think outside the box, to join our Lyndhurst service in North Finchley.

**The Job Role**:
The occupational therapist focuses on assisting people to engage in daily life activities that they find meaningful and purposeful. Occupational therapists understand occupations and use of occupation to affect human performance and improve the effects ofdisease and disability. The aim of the occupational therapist in our service is to help service users live as independently as possible whilst working closely with the keyworker, PEWS and psychologist, to ensure that service users are enabled and empoweredto reach their potentials within their range of capabilities. Assess occupational functioning, activities and interests and the impact of mental health difficulties in those areas using appropriate scales and measures. Develop a weekly activity schedule andprovide guidance to support staff on the implementation of plans. Lead on in-house activities and therapeutic routines. Liaise with community and voluntary services to enable community activities or visits from appropriate agencies if community access is compromisedby mental health difficulties.
**Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist**:
- Teach and support the active use of coping strategies to help manage the effects of symptoms of illness on one’s life, including being more organized and able to engage in activities of choice
- Help to identify and implement healthy habits, rituals, and routines to support a wellness lifestyle by addressing barriers and building on existing abilities
- Support the identification of personal values, needs, and goals to enable informed, realistic decision making, such as when considering housing and employment options
- Support the creation and use of a wellness recovery action plan in group or individual sessions
- Provide information to increase awareness of community-based resources, such as peer-facilitated groups and other support options
- Provide information on how to monitor physical health concerns (e.g., diabetes management, smoking cessation), develop strategies to control chronic symptoms, and recognize and respond to acute changes in mental health status
- Support the ability to engage in long-term planning (e.g., budget for major purchases, prepare advanced medical and mental health directives) that leads to meeting personal recovery goals
- Work alongside the PEWs and psychologist to develop psychoeducational groups and skill building groups which promote independence and wellbeing
- Participate in joint support planning and risk management planning with other professionals and team members.
