As our Groundsperson you will keep our grounds looking their best year round through expert garden maintenance and seasonal planning. Create welcoming outdoor spaces that wow our visitors and match our 4-star standards.
You'll handle everything from lawn care to decorative displays, making sure our gardens are both beautiful and safe. Your green thumb will help make lasting first impressions for our guests.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Working closely with the Maintenance Manager and Head Gardener to plan and undertake required maintenance and improvement works on all land, gardens and external areas to a high standard and to plan.
- Successfully ensuring that allocated grounds and gardens are well maintained and presented to a high standard.
- Safely and efficiently carrying out the agreed grass cutting, hedge cutting, planting, shrub and tree maintenance, fence/boundary repairs including paving and pathways to a planned schedule throughout the year across all Gretna Green Ltd sites with an eye on safe use of equipment and machinery at all times.
- Knowledgeably advising on planting of the most appropriate flowers, shrubs and trees in the appropriate areas to ensure gardens meet the required presentation standards.
- Effectively undertaking trimming trees, shrubs and hanging baskets as part of a planned maintenance schedule and at ad hoc times when required and when visually action is identified as being necessary.
- Proactively keeping all external areas free from litter and unsightly debris, including undertaking the emptying of waste and bins across the hotel and retail sites.
- Actively ensuring the cleanliness and neat presentation of work areas, vehicles and equipment at all times.
- Competently and safely undertake routine and scheduled maintenance on plant and equipment ensuring they are kept in good working order.
- Deal with chemicals in a safe and appropriate way including pesticides and herbicides using correct PPE and in accordance with COSHH rules and maintaining accurate and timely up to date records as required.
- Complying at all times with health and safety regulations, adopting safe working practices to protect yourself, colleagues and customers.
- Ensuring that all statutory and legal obligations are met whilst at work.
**Health and Safety**
- Always look after own health and safety and that of others.
- Anticipate possible and probably hazards and threats and take preventative or corrective actions.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of near misses, accidents and incidents, following established protocols and legislative requirements.
**General**
- Any other duties as assigned which reasonably fall within skill set and abilities which may be required from time to time.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- Good knowledge of all ground maintenance and landscaping with previous experience is essential.
- Full UK driving license essential.
- Formal horticultural qualification preferred or willingness to work towards one.
- Use of landscaping equipment such as ride on mowers, strimmer’s and self-propelled lawn mower.
- Mechanical and plant maintenance experience essential.
- Up to date knowledge of related health and safety regulations e.g. the regulation of pesticides
- The ability to work unsupervised, to follow clear instructions and have excellent time management skills.
- An awareness of the importance of customer service and an eye for detail.
- Chainsaw certificate desirable
- PA1 and PA6 spraying certificate desirable.
- The ability to manage own workload essential.
- Knowledge of hospitality industry desirable.

**Benefits and Remuneration**
**Location**:Gretna Green - on-site
**Holidays**:30 days holiday per annum (including bank/public holidays) plus birthday day off
**Rate of pay**:Competitive, depending on experience
**Hours**:40 hours per week
**Days**: Monday-Sunday, with cover for public holidays as required
