**Main purpose of the post**
To provide GIS support for the authority by creating, maintaining, sourcing and interpreting spatial data. To act as systems administrator and provide support for software used in the Planning and Public Protection Service. To act as the Authorities Address Custodian and Ordnance Survey Liaison Officer, and administrative support.
**Main duties and responsibilities**
- To be the Authority’s Address Custodian maintaining the Local Land and Property Gazetteer and acting as the key point of contact for all addressing matters within and external to the authority, working alongside the Street Naming Numbering Officer on a daily basis.
- To work in line with the GeoPlace 'Data Entry Conventions and Best Practice for Streets' and 'Data Entry Conventions and Best Practice for Addresses' respectively and sending daily updates to GeoPlace.
- To ensure compliance with the Data Co-operation Agreement so as to meet our obligations to retain membership of the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement.
- To act on behalf of the Authority with regard to the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement and the Aerial Photography Great Britain Agreement.
- Championing the single source of location data as much as possible, to make sure the Authority gets the best possible value from using that information - across the council and with partners.
- To provide day to day maintenance, administration and support of the Council’s mapping data sets to ensure their currency and accuracy and to advise on related matters of copyright in the role of Ordnance Survey Liaison Officer.
- To maintain a knowledge of Ordnance Survey products and services and to advise on their availability and use.
- To attend appropriate national/regional working/user groups relating to the LLPG, Ordnance Survey and Welsh Government
- To provide GIS support, training and analysis for Planning & Public Protection.
- To provide GIS support to other Authority service areas when required.
- To source, process, maintain, interpret and present Geospatial data from external sources and to make that data available within the Authority.
- The systems administration, use and management and reporting of all IT packages used by the section, with varying degrees of support from IT.
- The management of the section’s web pages and associated packages ensuring that they are up to date, user friendly and easily accessible.
- Work towards the continual improvement of the Electronic Data Retrieval and Management System and other e-Government initiatives to improve efficiency and the transfer, storage and accessibility of information.
- Manage the collection of data associated with the Development Control and Appeals and Enforcement function and the consequent presentation of the data for use internally and externally.
- To provide technical and administrative support to all functions of the Planning & Public Protection service.
- To undertake both data and photographic surveys in support of the Planning & Public Protection service.
- Assist with the management of the planning register to ensure that it is kept up to date and accessible.
- To provide training and continuous support to the Technical and Admin Team in using IT based packages to support the Planning & Public Protection service.
- Any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grading of the post.
