**Job Purpose**

The Trustees are seeking someone to assist the Catering Manager in the

Shoreham Centre's busy Pond Cafe. A cheerful and hardworking, highly motivated person would be ideal for the post, experience preferred, but not essential. The role will have casual hours initially, but we will hopefully look to expand them in the longer term.

The vision is to build a community cafe supplying the best, preferably locally sourced, food and drink. Applicants should constantly aim to support the

Catering Manager to get the best results from the cafe, as well as being passionate about great customer service which will help drive the business forward. You will also be expected to mentor and help any volunteers or new staff.

**Duties include**
- Operating the till
- Serving customers in a pleasant and courteous manner
- Learning the current food safety and hygiene regulations
- Cleaning the kitchen and cafe area in accordance with Health and Safety Regulations and Guidance
- Keeping cleaning and temperature records
- Helping with the preparation of the food and beverages served in the café
- Clearing tables
- Washing up
- Operating the stoves and equipment
- Ensuring that the cafe environment is pleasant and welcoming, in line with the image agreed with the Trustees
- Reporting maintenance issues to the Catering Manager
- Ensuring that any risk assessments are complied with
- Maintaining such records as are required by the Catering Manager

**In the Catering Manager's absence**

Duties would also include:

- Preparing and cooking food.
- Operating the till, and balancing it on a daily basis
- Keeping accurate time sheets daily
- Assisting with ordering supplies, locally where possible
- Checking that orders have been correctly delivered.

**Personal**
- An ability to work with all staff, apprentices, and volunteers
- To be punctual and suitably dressed as a representative of the Centre
- To be willing to attend and participate in periodic staff meetings designed to improve the efficiency of the Centre’s operations
- Good numeracy and communication skills
- A keen sense of community
- A confident, friendly personality who enjoys a challenge
- A willingness to be flexible with the hours worked if needed, and to cover staff absence.
- The willingness to work some weekends
- The ability to learn new skills
- The ability to work a till and cash up at the end of the day
- The ability to be flexible
- Previous experience in a cafe or similar would be useful
- To be polite to all staff and members of the public

**Required education**
- Secondary school or equivalent
