The role of a BCU Fire Safety Officer is vast and dynamic. Reporting directly to the Head of Health and Safety, you will lead on all aspects of fire safety across the multi hundred-million-pound estate.

**Main Responsibilities**
- Prioritise and manage fire safety actions resulting from risk assessment, incident reports and active monitoring methods.
- Support the Estates and Facilities teams with the day-to-day management of fire safety
- Implement University fire safety policies and procedures to meet legislative requirements / best practice across the portfolio.
- Ensure robust contractor management for active and passive fire safety protective systems
- Participate in witness testing and contractor handovers for construction work
- Raise the awareness of fire safety amongst university staff, such that they themselves can identify, manage and record the risks connected to their work

**Qualifications**
- Membership of a recognised, professional body (e.g. IFE, IFSM)

**Experience**
- Worked as a Fire Safety Officer for a challenging and demanding environment, providing leadership and able to demonstrate improvements made through their engagement
- Competent with regard to relevant hazards and able to interpret, summarise and explain legislation, assessment methodologies, control measures and able to develop management systems
- Significant experience of completing audits and fire risk assessments
- Experience of writing fire safety policies and procedures
- Experience of report writing
- Experience of influencing to implement best practice and continuous improvement
