Communication Communicate with staff at all levels at CCC and other Trusts with regard to transfer / upload of Images to PACS and RIS issues. Provide and receive complex or sensitive information with a range of staff from other CCC departments & external trusts. Maintain relationships with own and other departments. Communicate with all users of the service in order to optimise processes for transfer of image data.
Communicate with members of the team to ensure that the service is working efficiently. Knowledge, Training & Experience In addition to IT skills and knowledge equivalent to ECDL, the post requires knowledge of various aspects of RIS, PACS and Electronic Patient Record systems, as listed in Dimensions e.g. HSS RIS, Stats module within CRIS, Background table within CRIS (to set up new users). Training provided by PACS/RIS Manager, PACS/RIS Team Leader, IT Trainers, and system suppliers.
Require knowledge of anatomy, diagnostic modalities and clinical imaging terminology to ensure that data uploaded to PACS is accurate and relevant. Analytical and Judgement Skills Selection of imaging data required for image upload. Check information to identify data errors. Review information to resolve problems for staff eg: reset passwords, remove images from PACS Planning and Organisational Skills Plan own workload according to demands, and adjust plans to accommodate urgent requests from CCC and other Trusts.
Physical Skills Input data information into the Imaging systems with accuracy. Responsibility for Patient and Client Care Respond to queries from patients and relatives regarding their images. Assess whether enquiries should be redirected elsewhere if this is more appropriate. Provide a Trust-wide non-clinical support service for provision of images required for patient care.
Report all incidents and ensure incident forms are completed. Comply with Health and Safety instructions and policies. Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Propose and implement changes in procedures to bring about improvements in the service. Assess changes that need to be made in order to comply with Trust standards for Information Governance.
Contribute to service development by suggesting any improvements that could be made. Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources Responsible for safe use of all equipment PCs, PACS Administration Workstations, CD/DVD Burner. Take action if equipment is not performing correctly by reporting to the help desk or supplier and monitoring response/ progress. Maintain adequate stocks of consumables and escalate if required.
Responsibility for Human Resources Demonstrate tasks/train less experienced staff/ new starters Responsibility for Information Resources Ensure that data and information are stored securely and that transmitted data and information complies with local and national policies and regulations. Accurately record data on the Radiology systems including RIS, electronic patient record (EPR) & PACS. Report faults and issues with PACS and RIS using the relevant call logging system Responsibility for Research and Development There is no direct responsibility for Research within this role however the post holder will contribute towards the development of governance within the diagnostic imaging department. Freedom to Act The individual will be expected to act under their own initiative and must be able to take responsibility for their actions and understand their limitations.
Physical Effort Continuous VDU use & keyboard work Mental Effort Frequent high level of concentration and accuracy required for upload of imaging, transfer of imaging data. Work pattern can be unpredictable Emotional Effort Dealing with difficult people who use emotional pressure when requesting images from elsewhere, particularly when timescales are extremely short. Use judgement as to when such requests have to be prioritised and inform requestors if their requests cannot be fulfilled. Dealing with patient images involves exposure to details of serious patient conditions, such as tumours which are visible on the images when uploading them.
Dealing with images for deceased patients can be upsetting. Work under stressful conditions to resolve patient data issues if data quality is compromised due to external factors. Working conditions Continuous VDU use / keyboard work.

This is a small but very busy department especially since the opening of he Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Liverpool. This will be even busier with the opening of CCC-Paddington so these are exciting times for this team.
