Cafe Team Member

St Bridget Nurseries is a 99 year old family business. Whilst the core of our business is growing amazing plants and providing our customers with everything they need to enjoy their garden; we also have a cafe inside our garden centre. We aim to provide great tasting local food and drinks to our lovely customers. Our team is small but fun and we want another star to help develop and enhance our catering provision.

**Hours**
We are looking for someone to work 5 days a week - to include one alternating weekend day. **PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU CANNOT WORK THESE DAYS.**

Hours of work would be within 8.45am to 5pm on weekdays and Saturdays, 9.45am to 4pm on Sundays with a half hour unpaid break to be taken as and when trading permits. Your lunch (sandwich or soup) and drinks will be catered for.

**Responsibilities of the job include**:

- Operating the tills and handling money / payments on a daily basis;
- Proactive selling of products to customers (add on sales - e.g. would they like a slice of cake with the hot drink they are ordering?)
- Ensuring that stock (including food products) are correctly date marked and rotated accordingly.
- Preparing hot drinks using our barista machine (training given)
- Ensure excellent food hygiene at all times including the completion of daily H&S records.
- Basic food preparation (e.g. slicing cakes, making sandwiches, preparing salads, toasting toast, filling ramekins with jams etc)
- Be aware of what allergens exist within the centre and know where the food allergen sheets are kept to present to customers if asked.
- A calm approach, not being phased with dealing with a queue of customers on your own.
- Assisting with deep cleans and daily cleans of the kitchen and café and patio area including sweeping.
- Ensure food wastage is kept to a minimum, following the café manager’s instructions on correct storage and stock rotation.
- Serving and advising customers in person and over the phone
- Receiving and checking deliveries from suppliers
- Ensuring products are merchandised to their fullest potential creating attractive, inspiring displays
- Serving hot drinks (training is provided)
- Serving food to tables and clearing tables.
- Loading and unloading the dish washer and pot washing when needed.
- Operating with integrity and honesty at all times - upholding the company’s values
- Ensuring your immediate working surroundings and storage areas are organised, clean, tidy, safe and accessible environment for staff and customers at all times
- Working in accordance with the Health & Safety Policy as is applicable across the entire garden centre
- Taking and fulfilling customer orders and enquiries and dealing with any complaints in a positive manner
- Being a nominated First Aider at work (if required and if training is provided)
- Any other duties within the garden centre as requested by a manager, this may mean on some days you are asked to assist in the main garden centre (e.g. to unpack stock, do a stock count etc).

**Desired work experience**:
You may not have worked in a café or restaurant before but you must be able to provide excellent customer service and work sensibly in a pressured environment.

You will get a staff discount card to use in the garden centre (on satisfactory completion of your 13 week probation period).
There maybe opportunity for extra shifts or longer shifts from time to time but this cannot be guaranteed.
You will be given H&S level 2 food hygiene training, till training, barista training and if the café is ever quiet you will be asked to help in the garden centre.

Pay: £8.60-£11.44 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
