**A Brand new role has been created for an expanding team within OFCOM of Economist. This is to join a rapidly expanding and exciting team.**

**This role could be based in either Edinburgh, London or Manchester**

Ofcom exists to make communications work for everyone. We regulate the TV, radio and video-on-demand sectors, fixed and mobile telecoms, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate. We have been appointed as the new regulator tokeep people safe when they are online. This means we will help shape the future of online regulation and economists will play a key role in this area.

The Economics Group

We work across a wide range of challenging questions, and the fast-paced nature of the markets we oversee means our role is ever-changing. Ofcom has one of the largest competition and regulatory economics and finance teams in the UK, with more than 80 colleaguesworking on issues across the sectors we regulate.

**Key responsibilities**
- You’ll provide high-quality economic analysis on a variety of projects, including identifying the key economic issues and anticipating and considering different points of view
- You’ll potentially be exposed to large data sets, spreadsheets and econometric models, and you’ll use a range of techniques in which to analyse these.
- You’ll produce clear, well-reasoned drafts of documents, including those that will be published.
- You’ll communicate economic issues convincingly when attending team meetings, governance meetings and meetings with our stakeholders.
- You’ll collaborate with senior colleagues on wider Ofcom projects, where necessary.

**Skills, Knowledge and experience**
- You’ll have a strong grounding in microeconomics and, typically, you’d have training in one or more of the following: industrial organisation, public economics, behavioural economics, econometrics or financial economics.
- You’ll have good quantitative skills and are able to interpret information, with good attention to detail

**Qualifications**

A degree in economics and/or a post-graduate qualification (MSc or a PhD)
