**Location**:Hybrid - 3 days from Northwood, London. Remainder WFH/Remote

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department with a mission to protect our country and provide the ultimate guarantee of its security and independence, as well as helping to protect its values and interests abroad.

**As a Communications Officer, your main responsibilities will be**:

- As Communications Officer you’ll be responsible communicating the work of our personnel in a clear and engaging way, using newsletters, our intranet, media releases, and by responding to media queries.
- Collaborate with members of the communications team, and with colleagues across the organisation, to plan and curate inspirational communications content.
- Act as a skilled and sympathetic editor of other people’s writing, helping them to reinforce key messages and engage with our audiences.
- Development and editing of monthly blog posts for the website
- Produce news stories for release on gov.uk or directly to media outlets
- Offer well-judged and evidence-based communication handling advice to senior management and colleagues across the organisation.
- Develop communications and draft statements for different stakeholders and audiences
- Respond effectively and efficiently to media enquiries of all types

**Essential Skills**:

- SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role.
- Excellent writing skills including production of articles, features, media releases and editing and copywriting experience
- Experience in a communications or related environment, with direct experience of managing communications activities.
- Experience of planning and delivering, often under time pressure
- Understanding of how metrics and evidence can be used to improve outcomes
- Proactive team player with the ability to work on a variety of projects at the same time.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Experience of managing social media profiles
- Experience using design tools and software
- CIPS Certification
