The Assembly Operative will load and operate various types of production machinery within the group manufacturing facility located in the Engineering Dept. The role will require assembly and welding if applicable of multi-part welded assemblies. A strong emphasis is required for continuous improvement in the processes developed to manufacture the components and will be responsible for their own quality of work.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a general engineering production environment.
Willing to work towards a recognised welding qualification.
Qualified to set hydraulic power presses desirable.
Ability to identify areas for improvement for either quality or speed of work.
An interest in machine building and a desire to learn this and follow instruction.

Reporting to Laser Shop Manager, the Assembly Operative will be responsible for:

- Operating all production machinery within the cell in a safe and timely manner
- Weld to customer drawing to satisfy inspection and testing procedures
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and use measuring equipment to check raw material dimensions
- Locate and check quantity of raw material stock against works order requirement
- Examine condition of tooling for signs of wear and failure characteristics and report
- Check stock of tooling and notify if stock levels are insufficient for order/future orders
- Check gas levels for laser cutting machine and welding cell and advise accordingly
- Power up and shut down all machinery, including the laser cutter, hydraulic press, milling/drilling machine and welding set, including gasses
- Laser cutter: load program from list, load sheet and datumise, cut parts, unload scrap and break out parts
- Press: change-over tooling and set press to achieve folded parts to drawing
- Mill/Drilling machine: set jig, select correct tooling, drill/tap parts
- Welding machine: select correct jig, set welder and gas to the correct parameters and weld parts to customer specification
- Clean down all machinery after use and switch off
- Weekly maintenance checks for all machinery
- Maintain 5S standards and assist developing SOP’s an improvement initiatives
- Liaise with manager and endeavour to achieve delivery deadlines

**Salary**: £9.50 per hour
