Temporary Grounds Maintenance Worker - April to September 2025.
Location - City Wide
Hours of Work - 38hrs 45 minutes per week Mon - Fri 7.45 am - 4.00 pm
Bereavement Services currently has a number of vacancies for Cemetery Operative’s to join our core workforce in the maintenance of cemeteries and the provision of burials in the City. Sheffield City Council currently maintains 16 cemeteries and 1 garden of remembrance
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is looking to gain experience of working in a team environment. You will have attention to detail, be enthusiastic and safety conscious at all times. The purpose of the role is to provide a sympathetic, dignified and professional burial service within the Council’s cemeteries across the city, in addition we also provide and maintain a high standard of grounds maintenance work in the cemeteries using professional equipment and techniques.
The post holder is required to be part of a team of staff carrying out maintenance operations within a defined geographical area including the provision of grounds maintenance service to other clients.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is looking to gain experience of working in a team environment. You will have attention to detail, be enthusiastic and safety conscious at all times. Work will cover a wide range of grounds maintenance operations including grass cutting and the use of powered machinery for which suitable training will be provided.
A full clean driving licence is desirable.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
