Systemic Therapist

We have recently been commissioned to pilot a new community outreach team which aims to support Children and Young People (CYP) under the age of 18 who are reaching crisis and at risk of repeat presentations to acute hospitals / A&E services or who may otherwise require an admission into an inpatient facility.

The aim of this new pilot team and the wider system is to prevent CYP from being Inpatient admissions wherever possible, and to support them in the community. The team will serve as a gateway in and out of Tier 4 (T4) provision so CYP will be able to access T4 provision / support without the need for admission. This is a significant change in both the clinical offer and culture.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Systemic Therapist to join our new Outreach Team, working alongside the existing clinical teams across the newly established Specialist Services Care Group which is committed to supporting staff helping families and young people thrive.

The newly established Specialist Services Care Group provides inpatient and community services for children and adults needing specialist mental health assessment, care, and treatment. The Systemic Therapist will need to be to work flexibly with the multidisciplinary team to provide intensive therapeutic interventions to a select caseload of patients. The role will include assessment, formulation, and systemic intervention to young people and their families and clinical responsibility for complex cases, providing support to colleagues via individual and group supervision and consultation.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate Trust values in delivering care to others. They will be expected to work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, contribute to weekly clinical review meetings and care planning, and be expected to support reflective practice within the team through formulation, consultation, supervision, and training. There will be an opportunity for facilitating groups and/or support other clinicians in the delivery of group-based interventions. The post holder will participate in reflective practice to support the learning culture of the programme, promote best practice and an effective team ethos.

It will be quite a challenging environment at times, so we need clinicians with a positive attitude, compassion, resilience, and a hands-on approach. It is vital that the clinician is reflective around issues of power and difference, see the importance of working across systems, and can do that effectively. We can accommodate some flexible working in line with the service need. There will be a requirement to be able to travel independently.

The role of the Systemic Therapist will be committed to the pilot Community Outreach team; however, the overall skills will be seen as an extension of the existing Dragonfly MDT.
