Established in 1974, we’re entrusted by over 350 higher educationsector employers to manage and administer the pension scheme and its investments through our two companies, Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited and USS Investment Management Limited. **The role** Accountable for providing strategic context, direction, technical roadmaps and standards to drive the technology strategy and business transformational roadmaps, working with a range of senior stakeholders and key 3rd Party suppliers. **Key responsibilities** EA Standards: - Establish, implement and maintain the Enterprise Architecture function and standards across the USS business, ensuring that these are clearly defined and communicated to key stakeholders and business users. - Lead the architecture function within USS, including guiding and developing the architects and educating business stakeholders. EA Strategy: - Inputs into & translates business strategy into architecture strategic objectives, developing a technology vision and roadmap to fulfil business ambition and reduce costs. - Conducts IT horizon scanning as an input into IT and business strategy, bringing an external perspective and focus in to USS. This will include the identification of new technologies and IT capabilities and their benefits and value to the business, usingexternal sources and comparison of other Pensions / Investment providers. - To explore opportunities for innovation within the both digital and technical architecture not only to improve service but to facilitate savings, influencing business and technology stakeholders to adopt the right technology solutions - Defines and maintains the strategy architecture roadmap for building, enhancing, or replacing business and system capabilities, ensuring clearly defined "as-is" and "to-be" architectures are documented and agreed. EA solutioning: - Defines optimised architecture solutions to achieve architecture and business objectives - Contribute to the selection of specific technologies / software, ensuring alignment with overall technology strategy and conducting buy / build assessments. - Provide business assurance of supplier’s designs and proposals EA Governance & Control: - To develop framework for architectural practices that will support policies, the technical architecture and principles, chairing the Design Authority meeting. - Provides assurance that architecture standards are upheld by governing change against the architecture standards, ensuring the integrity of the solutions and alignment with strategy. - Maintains an Architecture Library for single version of the truth and robust change control Relationship Management - Identify and develop effective working relationships with key internal stakeholders and with external suppliers. - Engage with a wide range of stakeholders including project teams, IT specialist architects, Information Security, business users and management. Staff Management & Supervision: - Provide leadership, direction and motivation for the EA staff - Identify training & development needs of staff and ensure recorded in Personal Development Plan. - Be a key contributor to the IT Management team in order to drive forward the value of IT within the business. IT Operational Risk, Audits and Policy: - Continuously monitoring and analysing potential impacts and risks - To support the Audit Programme of work as and when required and ensure all Audit actions are completed against the assigned due dates. - To ensure IT Policies and procedures that relate to the EA function are regularly reviewed, documented and updated. **Your experience** **Experience**: - Extensive experience of setting up and managing the day to day operations of an EA practice including the development of processes, templates etc. and devising architectural standards and designs, iteratively to meet the needs of an organisation. - Extensive experience in the range of products, tools, templates, techniques, methodologies, practices and processes relating to Enterprise Architecture - Experience of component based architectures and business process automation - Expertise in large-scale transformations within business critical environments. - Clear and proven organisation, analysis and structured thinking skills. - Creatively interpreting strategy and translating emerging trends and technologies to deliver innovative solutions which add Business value - Presentation: being articulate and skilled in presenting ideas to others. Able to prepare and produce concise and insightful reports for a broad range of audiences - Engaging and communicating with a range of stakeholders, up to and including Executive level. - Financial Services experience and / or working in a regulated environment. **USSL is an equal opportunity employer.
