**Trading Standards Enforcement Officer**

**Grade 7 £23,033 - £24,946 per annum - plus market leading package (see below)**

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Trading Standards Service as an Enforcement Officer.

Our Trading Standards service supports local businesses and helps consumers by tackling unfair and unsafe trading practices through enforcement, advice, and education.

If successful, you will be based in our Trusted Trader team, supporting traders and consumers through advice and mediation as well as administration of the scheme and will have opportunities to work with colleagues across our service. You will also be supported to progress your career with us to gain Trading Standards professional qualifications,

If you have experience of dealing of dealing with the public, have good communication skills, a basic understanding of Trading Standards legislation and are willing to undertake further study and training, then we would like to hear from you.

You will be joining a supportive and flexible team of professionals and have managers who are supportive to facilitate your development.

**What will I be doing**:

- Advising traders and consumers on consumer legislation
- Assess and investigate complaints which reveal breaches of trading standards legislation using the appropriate criminal or civil law options
- Conduct duties in accordance with the statutory enforcement powers
- Supporting promotion of the scheme to consumers and traders
- Providing support across the Trading Standards service as appropriate
- Conduct duties in accordance relevant legal duties and regulatory codes of practice applicable to the service

- Ability to deal confidently with members of the public and business
- Ability to gather and accurately record information
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills
- Ability to comprehend technical and legal information and communicate this to others
- Ability to work to agreed deadlines
- Willingness, commitment and motivation to undertake further qualifications and professional development to degree standard.

The Trading Standards Team are based at Matlock, but as part of our Modern Ways of Working programme, we are currently working on a hybrid basis. There’ll be an opportunity to discuss future working arrangements at interview.
