Female Support Worker

An opportunity has arisen to join our charity, East Durham Community Initiatives, within our accommodation based supported housing service for a female support worker position. The service houses up to seven female residents, aged 16-25+, working 19 hours per week - this will equate to 3 shifts out of 7 each week. There is always opportunity for working additional overtime.
DBS Requirement: Enhanced Disclosure - costs will be met by the employer for the successful applicant
Experience working in a supported housing setting, homelessness or providing tenancy support services in the community would be an advantage.
The Support Worker is responsible for providing support, and supervision to individuals residing in a residential setting. The goal is to enhance the quality of life for residents, promoting their independence, well-being, and social integration. Much of the role is a lone worker position.
**Responsibilities**:
**Support and Guidance**:
Offer emotional support, encouragement, develop and sustain warm and trusting relationships with service users
Assist individuals in developing essential life skills and promoting independence.
**Safety and Security**:
Ensure the safety and security of residents by monitoring the environment and addressing any potential risks.
Respond appropriately to emergencies or crisis situations.
**Daily Living Activities**:
Assist with meal planning, preparation
Budgeting
Support residents in maintaining a clean and organized living environment.
Daily living skills
**Documentation**:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, incident reports, and daily progress notes.
Communicate effectively with other team members and relevant stakeholders.
**Collaboration**:
Work collaboratively with other support staff, healthcare professionals, and family members to ensure a holistic approach to support.
**Qualifications**:
**Education and Training**:
GCSE or Equivalent
Additional certifications or training in social work, human services, or a related field is beneficial.
**Experience**:
Previous experience in a similar role, especially in supported housing settings.
**Communication Skills**:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with residents, team members, and external services.
**Empathy and Patience**:
Demonstrated ability to show empathy, patience, and understanding toward individuals facing challenges.
**Crisis Management**:
Ability to remain calm and composed in crisis situations and follow established protocols.
**Flexibility**:
Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
