Job Introduction
- To directly line manage a group of operatives. Responsible for carrying out PDP’s, one-one’s and return to work interviews and working with HR colleagues as required to ensure reportees are well managed.
- Supporting the Project Manager in carrying out PDP’s, one-one’s and return to work interviews for the wider team by scheduling meetings, sending out necessary paperwork in advance, attending meetings and writing up notes from sessions.
- To carry out Health & Safety inspections including reporting any unsafe act, or condition, any accident or incident in line with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
- To undertake health and safety checks including ladder checks, work equipment, PPE inspections and vehicle checks.
- To prepare and support co-delivery of Tool Box Talks, Operative Training Sessions and Contractor Review meetings
- To attend site, with necessary support as required, to carry out pre inspections to ensure all works required are detailed.
- To allocate works to appropriate resource taking into consideration availability, skill set & turnaround times.
- To carry out post inspections with supervision as required to sign off completed works. Including, checking all works specified have been completed, checking & addressing quality of works (with both contractors and operatives as appropriate), ensuring schedule of rates (SORs) used and quantities charged to ensure correct payments are made to contractors and suppliers.
- Attend sites, with the Project Manager as appropriate, and carry out post and health and safety inspections
- Monitor contractor KPI’s to assist in managing performance by running relevant reports and extracting and analysing contractor data using Excel.
- Collaborate with other teams that do not form part of the Project Team (for example scaffolding roofing and gas) to gain knowledge and answer trade specific questions to help problem solve more complex operational issues/complications of specifications/works with operatives and/or contractors.
- Respond to complaints by investigating and providing details to necessary parties and assist with any actions arising from the complaint investigation/resolution.
- Build highly effective relationships with all staff, management, internal colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Keep all supplied council assets in a good condition in line with Brighton & Hove City Council’s code of conduct.
- Undertake any other duties as required by the council, provide back up to other supervisors as necessary. Attend informal and formal meetings and training sessions as required.

Additional Information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is term-time only. For part time applicants, where your working week is less than the council’s basic 37 hour week, contracted overtime rated pay will not form part of your working hours. This is because overtime rated pay is payable for hours worked in excess of the council’s basic 37 hour week. Your starting salary will be pro rata based on the basic annual salary elements of pay between £25,927 & £27,514.
