Cooking Tutor

Join the small team at RISE Learning Zone CIC as a part time tutor with responsibility for developing learners food and cooking skills, to improve vocational opportunities and life skills; and creating portfolios toward accreditation. Working with teenagers managing a range of traumatic histories and chaotic home lives who are unable to cope with mainstream education, RISE is focused on the emotional literacy of learners first and foremost, providing a nurturing environment in which to learn and grow. We are looking for a flexible and creative tutor who can empathise with the challenges our young people face in their daily lives, and contribute to their education in a caring and supportive way.
**Responsibilities**
- Food, nutrition and cooking tuition to small groups (1-5 learners) at key stage 3/4
- Tuition of basic entry level 1 through to level 1;
- Initially there days per week, 22.5 hours. Monday, Tuesday & Thursday.
- Generally low-ability learners with complex emotional issues & behavioural challenges
**Work Experience**
- ESSENTIAL: Tutoring/teaching food and cooking in alternative provisions, PRUs, special schools
- Experience of KS-3 & 4 curriculum & qualifications (NCFE preferred)
- Teaching in small groups of 2-5 learners and 1:1 tuition
**Education**
- Teaching qualification (eg. PGCE, Award/Cert/Dip E&T, P/C/DTTLS etc)
- Educated to degree level
**Skills**
- Understanding of vocational skills teaching, learning and qualifications
- ESSENTIAL: Experience of working in non-mainstream settings with challenging learners
- Basic understanding of working with young people managing infant & childhood trauma
- Ability to empathise and support the development of emotional literacy
- Robust understanding of safeguarding procedures
- Ability to work as part of a small team
**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 22.5 per week
