**Job Details**

We are looking for a veteran to volunteer to set up and support a veteran only group for our service members. This will take place within South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service monthly or fortnightly. It will also include attending and supporting veteran groups out in the community and being a direct contact for our veterans who access our service.
Could you use your interpersonal skills and experience to support people who are looking to make changes to their drug or alcohol use? South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service is the alcohol and drug service in South Tyneside for Adults providing free and confidential support for people who would like to make changes to their substance use in South Tyneside.
This exciting volunteer role would suit someone with an empathetic, non-judgmental attitude who can build strong working relationships with others.

**Tasks will include**:
Attending groups
Helping the facilitator to set up and run the session.
Supporting people within the group - this could include emotional support.
Share a group agreement at the start of each session, including respect and confidentiality.
Reporting any concerns, including safeguarding that may arise in the group.
Work closely with the group worker to plan and evaluate sessions. Sharing feedback and suggesting improvements or ideas for future sessions
Procure necessary resources such as flip chart, paper and pens, tea and coffee if facilities available.
Support the Team Manager with any tasks linked to the running of the group.
Attending community groups.
Providing weekly contact via telephone.

- Clear verbal/written communication skills
- A confident and friendly approach
- A willingness to learn
- Good IT skills
- An understanding of the importance of guidelines and procedures relating to key areas such as safeguarding and information governance
- Willingness to undergo a DBS check if required for the role.
- Be respectful and non-judgemental
- Willing to attend and complete relevant training.
- To participate in regular supervision sessions with your supervisor

**Please note**:
Volunteers have access to Humankind’s training platform, Learningkind, and will be asked to complete a number of training modules within their first 3 months, many of these are e-learning modules. One session on Safeguarding is delivered by trainers via Zoom and is 6 hours (with breaks) - there are a range of dates but please do keep this in mind.
