Our Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is a dynamic and creative community of enquiry, learning and engagement. Home to nine academic departments, over 20 research centres and a number of institutes alongside University assets including The Ruskin, the faculty holds true to our original mission to be a pioneer in challenging established thinking and championing new ideas through high-quality research. This research, excellence in teaching and learning, and high-profile engagement drives our international reputation. For example, our transformational partnership with Eden Project International and our local FE College has generated the unique place-based Morecambe Bay Curriculum. This forms a significant component of the local sustainability plans for green education in an area of the county with persistent indicators of deprivation. Many of our disciplines are in the top 10 in major UK league tables, (including linguistics ranked as number 1) and top 100 in world rankings, with the latest REF outcomes confirming the faculty as a world-leader.

The role of Dean offers an exciting opportunity to lead one of the University’s most prestigious faculties with a long pedigree of global excellence and an ambition to climb higher still in reputation and achievement. As a member of the University Executive Board, you will have a leadership responsibility beyond the faculty in helping set the wider strategy and having collective accountability for its delivery across the University as a whole.
