Interim Head of Financial Accounting

Our client is looking to recruit an Interim Head of Financial Accounting for 3-6 months.

This role is a senior position within the finance team. You will be joining the group as they begin to implement their updated Inspiring Futures Strategy and adjust to the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This provides a great opportunity to create new solutions in all areas of internal and external reporting using modern reporting technologies. You will be responsible for the quality, accuracy and timeliness of reporting - both statutory and internal - and for the key processes supporting this reporting.

Government reporting requirements:

- Working with the Financial Accounting team to meet their statutory reporting requirements for the Group, its subsidiaries and satellite bodies, including working with their sponsor department, and group auditors.
- Overseeing ad hoc reporting requirements, including the Government Finance Survey on staffing, the Country and Regional Analysis, and reports for the Office of National Statistics (ONS) on research and development (R&D) and business activity.
- Preparing monthly performance reports on the group’s and the Foundation’s investment portfolios.
- Producing quarterly forecast information on capital expenditure over the medium term to support the group’s cash flow and funding calculations.
- Reporting on performance against cash flow and funding forecasts to senior management and Executive.

**Experience**:

- A relevant accounting or financial qualification, e.g. ACA, CIMA, CIPFA.
- Excellent technical knowledge of current accounting standards.
- Advanced Excel skills and demonstrable ability to write reports for delivering financial information.
- Significant experience of reporting and audit processes.
- Demonstrable ability to plan in detail significant pieces of work and to deliver to your plans, setting clear expectations for others and yourself.
- Demonstrable commitment to increasing the use of automation in finance tasks.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal, with the ability to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders.
- A values-driven approach and passion for contributing to an open and inclusive organisation.
- Demonstrated an ability to impart to others (internal and external to the organisation) the information that you produce.
- Enjoy seeing the big picture and identifying future developments in accounting and reporting.
