Strategic Portfolio Underwriter

LV= General Insurance have an excellent opportunity for you to join our Broker Standard Car Underwriting team in Croydon as a Strategic Portfolio Underwriter.

Your new role will have two main focuses, analysis and account management. You will be supporting our brokers and our business to deliver profitable growth. You’ll need to be adaptable and self-sufficient - no day will be the same.

You will be responsible for building tailored Underwriting propositions/ strategies and for new opportunities to exceed profit and growth targets for each of your accounts. You’ll have frequent contact with brokers at senior levels as well as internal stakeholders including Pricing.

You’ll also be responsible for managing, developing and monitoring all aspects of Underwriting activity. To manage the development, profitability and distribution of personal insurance products through the broker channel. You’ll take a handful of brokers and analyse their footprint, performance and trend analysis to present proposals to the Pricing Forum; making positive impacts to loss ratios.

**About you**:
You’ll have excellent analytical abilities, ideally gained from an Underwriting environment however we will consider people with a Pricing or Actuarial background. We currently use SAS and Radar so experience of these would be an advantage. You’ll have good reporting abilities; experience of PowerBI would be an advantage however Advance Excel skills are essential.

You’ll be a natural relationship builder with demonstratable experience in managing relationships and multiple stakeholders. You’ll be confident in presenting information/proposals in a clear manner to a range of stakeholders.

We are flexible on your insurance background, although this position sits in standard motor, motor experience is not essential. We’re also flexible whether you have gained your experience direct or within broker.

**Details**:

- Responsible for delivering the Personal Lines Car Business plan for own accounts
- Assist the Portfolio Underwriting Manager with the development, implementation and delivery of the overall Portfolio Underwriting Strategy
- Have complete knowledge of each of their Strategic Accounts, expectations, strategy and plans
- Constant review of the shape and quality of incoming business. Ensuring that pricing/Underwriting integrity is maintained
- Use statistical information to identify brokers that are performing well or poorly and prepare recommendations for presentation to the LV Broker Pricing committee
- Review proposed broker schemes and work with the Personal Lines Distribution team to decide which ones to promote to the Portfolio Underwriting Manager for consideration. Once agreed support the implementation of these schemes liaising with relevant areas of the business and ensure appropriate on-going monitoring and control
- To be aware of competitor rating approaches and market conditions and to ensure our products are appropriately priced to balance results and volume
- Review broker remuneration levels in respect of results, volume and expenses. Focus on costs, process improvements and or efficiency to contribute to the profitability of own accounts and LV=Broker
- Attend account management meetings with the brokers
- Identify commercial opportunities for product development and for areas where growth can occur
- Develop self in order to maximise personal contribution to the job
- Maintain an in depth understanding of strategic accounts, distribution channels and the Personal Lines market
- Re-enforce the culture and values of LV=Broker through appropriate behaviours and actions
- Develop and maintain an effective network of internal stakeholders in order to maximise the profit and grow business opportunities for LV.
