Trust Registrar in Paediatrics

The post holder will be expected to provide middle grade cover on a rotational shift basis in general paediatrics and neonates and participate in the on-call rota. They are expected to supervise the SHOs in service delivery.
As a member of the paediatric department you should have two main aims:
1. To be an effective member of the team caring for children attending the hospital. The department works as a team and you should never feel unsupported. There is always someone to ask.
2. To take advantages of training opportunities provided by your post. Each junior doctor has a consultant mentor who will regularly review your work and your training.
The Paediatric Department consists of 20x Consultants, 19x Registrars (ST4-8) and 20x Trainees (ST1-3), and 3x Foundation Trainees. We have a 16-bedded Paediatric ward, 8-bedded Short stay unit, a Day Assessment Units, and a Children’s Outpatient Department. The Sunrise Neonatal Unit is a Local Neonatal Unit providing care to babies greater than 27 weeks gestation and weighing more than 1kg. The unit consists of 24 cots in total; with 2 designated as Intensive Care, 6 as High Dependency, and 16 as Special Care. However, it is anticipated that the unit will expand alongside the development of the new Maternity Unit which will soon increase our cot capacity to 28.
We also work closely with the community teams at St Michael’s and St Anne’s Hospital. The department runs on a split rota with a separate team of registrars and trainees on the neonatal and paediatric units.
Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to;

- There are 19 full-time Registrar equivalents who will work 2 full-shift rotas. Total average weekly hours will not exceed 48 hours and are EWTD compliant. You will be paid at the equivalent Registrar scale for your level of experience with a Band 1A supplement.
- You will rotate through the paediatric wards/Day Assessment Unit/A+E and the neonatal unit/postnatal wards.
